Topic: Shaykh Rabee' on "Hearing Both Sides of the Story"

Tonight, the 29th night of Ramadhaan, 1423, myself, Aboo Khadeejah, Abul-'Abbaas Moosaa, 'Abdur-Razzaaq As-San'aanee, and a group of students of knowledge were in the house of our shaykh, Al-'Allaamah Rabee'us-Sunnah ibn Haadee Al-Madkhalee, may Allaah preserve him.

He gave us many beneficial advices and answered questions on a number of subjects, from them the shaykh was asked concerning the doubtful matter that is being spread from some of the callers in the West who ascribe to Salafiyyah that before a shaykh can rule on a person he must hear both sides of the story, and they use as a proof that Dawud 'alayhe as-salaam prostrated and sought forgiveness from Allaah for ruling before hearing both sides of a story.

The Shaykh answered that this is only applied in a dispute between two parties (khusoomah), for example if someone comes and says, "So-and-So owes me money" and the likes.  But as for when a scholar comes and rules on a person then we must accept it as this is the acceptance of the trustworthy one (thiqah).  And it is obligatory to accept the narration of the trustworthy one.  For example, he mentioned that if Shaykh Al-Albaanee, Shaykh Ibn Baaz, or Shaykh Ibn 'Uthaymeen ruled upon a person that he was a liar, then this is accepted from them, and it is not from the manhaj of the Salaf to bring the liar to hear his side of the story.  So it was with the likes of Yahyaa ibn Ma'een, and rather the Deen of Islaam is built upon this.

May Allaah preserve the shaykh and allow him to continue to defend the da'wah as-salafiyyah and to refute the people of innovation and party-partisanship, and smash to pieces the doubtful matters that they try to spread amongst the youth.
