Why was this collection of ahadeeth named "sunan an nasaaee"?

"Sunan" meaning a book mentioning reports about the Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu 'alayhe wa sallam), clarifying his guidance and rulings on matters of the religion.

"Nasaa'ee" the scholar who gathered the narrations in the book, organized them into fiqh chapters, and relayed them with their chains.  He died in the year 303.  He was the last of the four imaams of the well-known Sunans:  Aboo Daawood (d.275), at-Tirmithee (d.279), Ibn Maajah (d.273), and an-Nasaa'ee.

His name was Ahmad ibn Shu'ayb an-Nasaa'ee, and his kunyah was Aboo 'Abdir-Rahmaan.  He collected two Sunans:

as-Sunan al-Kubraa (the larger Sunan collection)
as-Sunan as-Sughraa (the smaller one, also called, "al-Mujtabaa" = the Selection)

and the arabic construction "Sunan an-Nasaa'ee" is MUDHAAF and MUDHAAF ILAYHE, meaning: the "sunan" OF "an-Nasaa'ee".

May Allaah have Mercy on him.

Jazakallahu Khayr, However most of that information I was aware of walhamdulillah, Let me reprase the quesion. Someone said to me there was some other significance as to why that specific collection of ahadeeth was titled sunan an-nasee. Not coming from a linquistic standpoint but from some other angle of significance. With the emphasis being on " an-nasaa'ee"

sorry akhee mustapha, i don't know

here's a point of benefit from a classmate of mine (Eysa):

quote:
adh-dhahabee says in tathkira al-Huffaath (3/939) in the biography of ibn as-Sunnee (Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Ishaaq) that he narrated the Sunan of Nissaaee having heard from Nisaaee and then goes on to say that it was ibn as-Sunnee who abridged the Sunan titling it 'al-Mujtaba'.  Just thought I would share that with you.

May Allaah reward him well.
