Bismillahi wa salaatu wa salaamu ala arasoolullahi wa ala alihe wa ashabihe ajma'een, wa ba'ad: I wanted to ask about the issue of calling prominent figures from amongst the disbelievers to islaam and the benefits of their acceptance of it. Does the celebrity from amongst them count as a "prominent figure" since it seems that celebrities typically in the west get far more noteriaty and acceptance than dignitaries and politicians? min akhukum fid-Deen: Abu Jameelah This message was edited by abu.jameelah.m on 12-11-05 @ 7:55 AM

as-salaamu 'alaikum That's an excellent question akhee. Your question could be asked in reverse also. For example, what are the harms of some well known celebrities accepting Islaam while continuing in bad behavior (in front of cameras and microphones for millions of people to see and hear)? It seems this would create (even more) shubhah in the minds of the kuffaar and could be used as a "proof" against Islaam and the Muslims when they see a WELL KNOWN celebrity like Mike Tyson, who says he is a Muslim (in front of cameras and microphones for millions of people to see and hear) , being arrested numerous times IN A BAR AND NIGHTCLUBS NO LESS! Not to mention all his highly publicized outrageous statements and actions (in front of cameras and microphones for millions of people to see and hear). All of us have faults and shortcomings (that we wouldn't want exposed to others) but those of celebrities are often exposed and magnified for the entire world to see. When it comes to being famous or well known, sometimes the masaalih (benefits) can be far outweighed by the mafaasid (harms). Allaah knows best إبراهيم البخاري Ibrahim Bukhari _____________________________ Ibn Sharefah Abdul-Qawiyy al-Michiganee This message was edited by ibrahim.bukhari on 12-6-05 @ 6:13 PM
