As salaamu 'alaykum war rahmatullaahi wa barakatu

I have a question in regards to the eclipse prayer.  We had a lunar eclipse last night and some masajids offered the salah.  But the ahadith I have read in regards to this have stated that the prayer was offered during the eclipse of the sun.

My question is:  Is it from the sunnah to pray during a lunar eclipse?

Question:
- for a student of Knowledge, if he could ask the Ulema...

As-Salaamu AlaiKum,

I want to ask concerning a Partial Solar Eclipse?

- I'm assuming that we have to be in the Masjid praying (because i was told that thats what some of the local people did during the last eclipse)?

- And if so, then what should one do if the local Masaajid are not open (provided that we have to be in there praying)?

- And what if there is a shortage of space to pray inside the Masjid?

The reason for the questions is that the Kufaar are talking of an upcoming partial eclipse over Europe, parts of Africa and Asia - (and Allah Knows Best).

And Following On - Is there a difference if the Eclipse is already in progress at Sunrise? (meaning that it starts before sunrise, it is in progress during sunrise, and by the time it finishes, the sun is in the sky well above the horizon).
