  As Salaamu 'Alaikum ...

For those who have info regarding dogs, i.e. conditions for owning a dog, ruling regarding its saliva, excrement on one's person/clothing, etc., walking them (as its been mentioned to me that Shaikh Al-Albaanee said that this was an imitation of the Jews); a person's reward being reduced daily for owning a dog without a Sharee'ah reason, and all other info related to the issue, please post it under this thread, baaraka Allaahu feekum.

Ashrafil-Anbiyaa?e wal-Mursaleen, wa ba'd:

as-Salaam 'alaykum wa-Rahmatullaahi wa-Barakaatuhu,

                            Domesticated Dogs

Except for cases where the Shari?ah specifically mentions- for hunting, protecting one?s livestock, and farmland- it is forbidden to keep a dog. A person who keeps a dog loses Qiraat (a measurement) of reward ever day, an indication of it being unlawful (f0rbidden), for losing rewards is like receiving punishment: both indicate that something is unlawful.

Given this occasion, I advise all my brothers not to initiate the disbelievers by getting a dog; a dog is not merely filthy and impure, but it is the most impure animal. What it spoils cannot be purified except by washing that object seven times, once which must be done with dirt. Even the filthy pig, which Allaah mentioned in the Qur?an to be prohibited & impure, does not reach this level.

We unfortunately see many people, impressed as they are by disbelievers, getting dogs for no reason. They obtain, raise and clean these animals, animals that could not be purified by plunging them into sea. People, in their foolishness, spend large amounts of money for the care of Dogs, while the Prophet (sallallaahu ?alaihi wa sallam) forbade wasting wealth.

I advise these people to repent to Allaah Almighty & to expel the dogs from their homes. But because the Prophet (sallallaahu ?alaihi wasallam) permitted keeping dogs in these instances, you may do so if you need one for hunting, for protecting livestock or farmland.
