as-salaamu 'alaykum, here in kansas, we have named our musallaa dar-us-sunnah. i am of the opinion that this name should change, because we get the sunnah from the hadeeth. so if dar-ul-hadeeth is not acceptable, then i feel that dar-us-sunnah is also not acceptable. am i correct in my understanding? i don't want to make a move without clarity. aboo husaam shaheed ibn george williams wichita, ks usa

I would like to add to my brother, Aboo Uways' statements of the meeting with Shaikh Rabee that lovely morning of Jumu'ah. He was also asked the question: "How do we deal with the Salafees who are with al-Ma'ribee?" The Shaikh said:
Dawud Adib the son of David C.White Sr.

Just a point in regards to what shaikh rabee mentioned as centres of learning and their historical usage. titles were given to centres according to what was taught. For example in Damascus [dimishq], which was the capital for a long period of time, the centres were categorised as follows 1] centres for quraan studies were named ?daar ul-quraan al-kareem?? eg. daar ul-quraan al-kareem al-juzariyyah 2] centres for hadeeth studies were named ?daar ul-hadeeth?? eg. daar ul-hadeeth al-ashrafiyyah which has been headed by ibn salaah, an-nawawee, al-mizzi, as-subki, ibn katheer, daar ul-hadeeth al-humusiyyah which has been headed by al-alaa?ee and daar ul-hadeeth as-sakariyyah which has been headed by ibn taymiyyah and his forefathers, and adh-dhahabi, 3] centres for quraan and hadeeth were named ?daar ul-quraan wal-hadeeth?? 4] centres for the madhhabs were named ?al-madrasah?? eg. Al-madrasah al-atabakkiyah for the shafi?ee?s, al-madrasah al-asadiyyah for the ahnaaf, and so on for the other madhhabs as well like the hannabilah, maalikiyyah and the dhaariyyah. then there were the centres for the soofiyyah and others, mainly nothing to do with the sunnah, like ar-ribaat..., al-khaaniqah..., az-zaawiyah... at-turbah... also the masaajid were named and they were at times centres of learning eg. masjid ibn humayd, or al-jaami ar-rabwah. as for books related to centres, then the famous one is ?ad-daaris fi taarikh al-madaaris? by abd ul-qaadir an-nu?aymee ad-dimishqi [d.927]. in this book he lists all the centres of dimishq, when they were set up, how and by whom, source of funding, location and biographies of their heads. you will also find words in the books of taarikh like al-bidaayah, siyar, al-ibar? in our times in the village of dammaj, daar ul-hadeeth is the most well known centre, being headed by shaikh muqbil, rahimullaah, and now shaikh yahya al-hujuree. you can find info about it in several different books; one recent one contains many photos of its different parts. aboo ubaidah
