  as-salaamu 'alaykum,

a brother in a nearby prison writes:

Some Muslims believe it is okay to go to Moorish Science Temple callout, and other non-Muslim callouts.  What is the Islaamic ruling on this?

  as salaamu 'alaikum,

A "call-out" is a time slot in which prisoners are allowed to attend religious services. At some institutions it's known as a "Detail".  Each religion, group, sect etc. is allowed a different time or day for their specific service.  For example, Christians may use the conference room (for services) on Sundays at 11am, while the Muslims would be able to use it on Fridays at 1pm.  Jews, Jehovah Witnesses, N.O.I, Moorish Science Temple members and various other "religous" groups would all have their own specific times and days in which they could use a conference room, chaple or designated area etc.

So in reality, attending a Moorish Science Temple "call-out" would mean attending their so-called religious service. It should be noted that many prisoners like to attend various different "call-outs".  Some like to attend simply to pass time.

Unfortunately, it is common to see many of the Muslims mixing and mingling among the various Islaamic sects on their specific "call-out" days/times. However, here in Michigan some of the Correctional Facilities have been implementing a new rule which states that if a person signs up for a particular "call-out" he or she would only be allowed to attend that specific group service.  In other words, you can not attend Sunni Muslim services on Friday and then attend Moorish Muslim services on Saturday, you must choose one group only.

If someone could provide a link which points out the evils and misguidance of the Moorish Science Temple specifically and the false call of "wahdatul adyaan" (Unity of Religions) in general, perhaps this would be helpful to the brother insha'Allaah.

I've used the word "sect" loosely here, however I agree with brother Hasan that the Moorish Science Temple is upon clear Kufr.  For the sake of clarity it should be known that there are many groups which call themselves Muslims (within the prison system) whether they are Deviants or outright Disbelievers.  And Allaah Knows Best

Bismillaahir Rahmaanir-Raheem

as-salaamu alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuhu. Just a side question, the Moorish Science Temple, do they not believe in a prophet after Muhammad Ibn Abdillaah [Salawaatu Rabbihi wa Salaamuhu Alayhi]? Have the ulema made takfir of these inviduals? Barka Allaahu Feekum Jamee'an

  Salaam 'alaykum,

Na'm, the Moorish Science Temple believes Timothy Drew was a prophet after Muhammad ibn 'Abdullaah sallallaahu 'alayhi was sallam. And they also believe in a book being devinely revealed after the revealation of the Qur'an. And their list of clear kufr goes on and on.

The Moorish Science Temple is not from the sects of Islam.

Was salaam 'alaykum
