Topic: Recommendations for historical study??

  As-Salaamu alaikum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakatuh,

Does anyone have any knowledge of the positions the Ulamah have taken on the historical issue of the collapse of Roman and Byzantine empires?  Have there been recordings of talks on the history of those regions during the time of the Messenger (Sallalahu alaihi wa sallam) and after him up until the time of the Mamlukiyyah in Misr wa Shams (Egypt and Syria)?  Did any of the major scholars of past and present have books regarding this kind of history and its use as an illustration of the corruption of the deen of the ancient peoples and/or their distortions and deviations in matters of religion?  I have access to many basic histories western perspectives (since I live in America, such are easy to come across) but few by Muslims.  Any assistance and references available, barak'Allaah feekum, will be a benefit to me, insha'Allaah.
