What are the characteristics of the believers that make them distinct from the disbelievers?

This is a great question indeed. By knowing the difference between the believers and other people, the difference between the Truth and falsehood becomes distinctly clear, as does the difference between the people of eternal happiness and the people of eternal misery...

Is that an actual book that he authored, or is it a collection of fataawa taken from other sources? The words "forthcoming book" made me think the latter, hence the question about the original source.

  bissmillahi ar rahmani ar rahim

assalam alaykoum

would this be a good idea to make one's parents which are kouffaar read this article? or would this be too harsh? because the description is so accurate and true, that it should shake hearts.
after having spoken of tawhid of course.
Would this be a good way to make da'wah to a kaafir?

" al haqqou min rabbikoum" (Ali 'Imran).

  wa 'alaykumus-salaam

"the forthcoming book" = the translation, which has been completed and will be available very soon, in shaa' Allaah.  It is actually two books in one, and the second book, Mawaani' Al-'Eemaan, is printed with it.

From the introduction to the translation:

quote:
The book consists of two treatises.  In the first one, Essential Questions and Answers About the Foundations of Eemaan (Faith), As-Sa'dee poses and answers 22 questions about Eemaan and its related affairs.  He begins by introducing tawheed and its categories, and then he deals with Eemaan and its pillars.  He includes questions on shirk, hypocrisy, and innovation.  Also discussed are the rights of the Muslims over us, including the rights of the Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu 'alayhe wa sallam), his Companions, and the Muslim leaders.  He then completes the first treatise by describing the Straight Path and those who are upon it.

After clarifying the affairs of Eemaan, the author then goes on to explain why the majority of the people have turned away from it in the second treatise, Obstacles in the Path of Eemaan (Faith).  He discusses ten things that prevent many people from embracing true faith, mentioning proofs and examples from the Book of Allaah for each one.

It is an actual risaalah of As-Sa'dee, intended for new Muslims.  It goes into some issues of imaamah, qadr, the increase/decrease of eemaan, nifaaq, bid'ah.  It is not intended for non-Muslims.
