Assalaamu alaykum wa rahmatullaah.

I came across a seafood package, and on the ingredients list, it said it
contained rice wine.

Does anyone have any knowledge about it's properties, or whether it contains
alcohol?

wa 'alaikumussalaam wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh dear brother,

From a number of online resources including Wikipedia, BBC and these 3 academic papers (1, 2 & 3), it seems that rice wine is particular to some parts of East Asia and that it contains alcohol. The first paper mentions:
quote:
... the alcohol fermentation of Korean traditional rice wine ...
The second says:
quote:
The aromatic red rice wine produced economically by uncooked ethanol fermentation of aromatic red rice ...
And the third says
quote:
Rice wine is an alcoholic beverage brewed from rice ...

As regards the amount of alcohol it contains, I found this suprising information on ehow.com, wAllahul-Musta'aan (Allah is the One Whose help is sought):
quote:
Rice wine has the highest alcohol content, on average, of all the fermented beverages. Beer, which is lower on this totem pole, has an alcohol content of 3 to 8 percent. Grape wine is 10 to 20 percent alcohol on average. Rice wine, on the other hand, runs between 18 and 25 percent alcohol.
Allaahu 'alam.
