  asalamu alaikum,

i remember reading somewhere that saying "Allah and His Messenger (sallallahu
alayhi wa sallam) know best" is not permissible anymore, after the death of
the prophet alayhi salaat wa salaam. rather, one should say, Allah knows
best.

unfortunately i dont remember when i read this, thats why im posting this so
anyone who may know the reference can please post it here..

barak Allahu feekum

  Wa 'alaykumus-salaamu wa rahmatullaah.

The Permanent Council of Scholars in KSA have issued a fatwaa (v.2, p.163) stating that saying "Allaah and His Messenger know best" was for the lifetime of the Messenger.  After his death (sallallaahu alayhe wa sallam), "Allaah knows best" is to be used.  This was signed by Shaykh Ibn Baaz, Shaykh Ghudayaan, and Shaykh Abdur-Razzaaq 'Afeefee (may Allaah have Mercy on them).  Other notable scholars, like Shaykh Saalih al-Fowzaan, have supported this.

However, Shaykh Ibn 'Uthaymeen and some of the explainers of Kitaab at-Towheed, allowed its use, with some conditions.

What seems to be correct based on the overall practice of the Companions and the early scholars is to refrain from saying "Allaah and His Messenger knows best" after his death, and rather say, "Allaah knows best."

And Allaah knows best.
