Asalaamu 'alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh,

I pray that you and your families have good health, wealth and Eemaan bi Ithnillaahi Ta'Aala. I was wondering if anyone knows whether we should close our windows at Maghrib time as well as our doors.

I have heard different opinions concerning this, I have heard from some people that windows SHOULD be closed at Maghrib because in the time of the Prophet salallahu 'alayhi wa sallam there were no windows and that the Shuyookh of the latter times have said that windows should be closed as well.

But then I have also heard that windows should NOT be closed as the hadeeth ONLY mentions doors and that there were windows in the time of the Prophet salallahu 'alayhi wa sallam yet they did not close them.

I really need clarification on this as the opinions I have written above have been given in duroos by some of our du'aats, and not from laymen like myself inshaa'Allaah.

BarakaAllaahu feekum

It is reported that Abu Al-Darda May Allaah be pleased with him said:

"You will never be pious (a person of taqwa) until you become knowledgeable, and you will never be beautiful with your knowledge until you act [by it]."

Ibn Abd Al-Barr, Jami Bayan Al-Ilm wa Fadlihi article 1239.

"Be patient upon the Sunnah, and stop where the people (i.e. the Salaf) stopped, and say what they said, and refrain from what they refrained from, and follow the path of your righteous Salaf; for verily, sufficient for you is what was sufficient for them

  Asalam u alaikum

I asked that question to Sheikh Yahya al Hajooree during a phone conversation in 2007 and he mentioned that the hadeeth is specific for the doors and not the windows and therefore it should be keep specifically for the doors.

BarakAllahu feekum
