  Asalaamulakum

My brother-in-law is anger with his dad because his dad told his son that xmam trees are pagan related and muslims don't celebrate xmas or get xmas trees.

My brother in law says his intentions are for decoration and has nothing to with xmas and if his son wants one cos all his friends have one he will get one.

What can I say to him ? And try and explaining actions are important as well and to protect his son. He argues that the quran says nothing regarding xmas trees

Advice please.

  Wa 'alaykumussalaam,

I suggest listening to the following lecture:

http://salafiaudio.com/product-detail/Non-Muslims+and+Their+Religions//Salafi+Publications/Abdul-Waahid%2C+Abu+Khadeejah/Should+Muslims+Celebrate+Christmas%3F/download/289

Also, I believe at this weekend's SPUB's Winter Conference there will be a lecture on celebrating Christmas that maybe you can ask for advice inshaa-Allaah.

The concept of putting an evergreen Christmas pine tree in the home (especially during December) is something exclusive to the religion of the Christians. The trees are sold as "Christmas Trees". They are sold during "Christmas Time". Most likely this issue is dealt with under the topic of the prohibition of imitating the disbelievers. There are also certain externally apparent acts that Muslims are prohibited from regardless of the inner intention.
