Topic: What to do/say before and after fasting?

  As-salamu alaykum!
I would like to know the following:
1. Before fasting any day during Ramadhaan and otherwise is it obligatory (fard) to do niyat and if so, must it be pronounced or silent?
2. What is obligatory (fard) to do or say when breaking the fast?
3. What is Sunnah regarding these matters?
4. And if there is anything else regarding these issues one should try to do/say?
Jazakallahu khayran.
As-salamu alaykum!

  Bismillaah Al-Hamdulillaah

Wa 'alaykum u salam wa rahmatullaahi wa baarakatuhu, Esad,

Read through these, in shaa` Allaah:

http://www.troid.org/ibaadah/ramadaan/index.php?option=com_content&task=blogcategory&id=148&Itemid=371 [A series of beneficial articles and audio in Troid's Ramadaan section]

Wa jazzak Allaahu khairun,

Subhanak Allaahuma wa bihamdika ash-hadu anlaa illaaha illa anta astaghfiruka wa atubu ilayk

If I said anything correct, then it is from Allaah (subhanahu wa taa'ala), and if I erred, then that is from me and shaytan.

  As-salamu alaykum!
Thank you very much for the beneficial links. I still need an answer on question #1. I would also appreciate more information regarding fard and sunnah actions regarding fasting. And I have an additional question which is:

5. Can anyone please provide me with the source for breaking the fast with dates, what does this mean in terms of quantity and what kind, does it matter if they are seedless (I hope you know what I mean), dry, etc.?

Barakallahu feekum.
As-salamu alaykum!
