Topic: How are you today?

AbooTasneem    -- 29-12-2005 @ 9:03 PM
It was related from Al-Marroodhee that he asked (Al-Imaam) Ahmad:

How are you today (lit. How is your morning)?

He replied:

How can one?s day be while he is required by his Lord to perform obligatory acts of worship?

(How can one?s day be while) his Prophet is calling him to practice the Sunnah?

(How can one?s day be while) two angels are requiring from him to correct his deeds?

(How can one?s day be while) his nafs urges him to follow its desires?

(How can one?s day be while) Iblees is beckoning him to commit all types of indecent, evil deeds?

(How can one?s day be while) the Angel of Death is observing him (waiting) to take his soul?

(How can one?s day be while) his dependants are asking him to provide them with maintenance?

Reaching Both The Benefits Of The Religion And The Worldly Affairs

The sensible one is in a position to have as provision the Baaqeyaat As-Saalihaat (i.e. the good righteous deeds that last and are better in the sight of Allah for reward and better in respect of hope); together with his share in the worldly life, with ease and by seeking aid in going out in the morning and midday and something of the night time.

This is the foundation upon which he basis his worldly affairs and their means.  And even if such (affairs) came to him late at night, he would pray and seek aid from his Lord and asks for that which brings about goodness in (both) his religious and Worldly affairs, even with regards to some easy affair.

He begins his day with good; recitation of the Qur'aan and acts of worship to which one devotes (himself) in the morning.  He performs the five daily (obligatory) prayers in their earliest times, and that which Allah makes easy for him to perform of good actions, such as prayer, recitation of the Qur'aan, remembrance of Allah, acquiring knowledge and other than that.  He engages his tongue in the Remembrance of Allah and in seeking forgiveness.

He pursues the means by which the worldly gains are reached, such as trade, production of goods, farming and its like, with gentleness and beautiful seeking whilst seeking the aid of his Lord in that.  He suffices himself with the permissible means and with that which Allah has made lawful, and turns away form that which He (subhaanah) has made unlawful.  The intention behind this is to fulfil the individual obligations and to be (upon) self-sufficiency, and having little or no need of the creation.   If he were to do this or something closer to it, the result will be goodness and he will gain an abundant reward.

And he does not forget his share in the worldly life, and nothing of its pleasures escapes him.  It may be that Allah blesses him with contentment, and that is the true richness by which a good life is attained.

And Allah (subhaanah) is the Bestower of every means to success.

The Arkaan (Pillars) of Gratitude

Pertaining to what Al Baaree [The Originator (Allah-subhaanah] mentioned with regards to His Favours conferred upon the slaves, of the facilitation of the means of transport (through riding beasts and ships):

''In order that you may mount on their backs, and then may remember the Favour of your Lord when you mount thereon, and say: ''Glory to Him Who has subjected this to us, and we could never have it (by our efforts).  And verily, to Our Lord we indeed are to return!'' (43:13-14)

Mentioned (in the above) are the three pillars of gratitude, and they are:

1.Acknowledgement

2.Proclamation of the Blessings of Allah, Speaking about it, and Praising Allah with regards to that.

3.Submission to Allah, and seeking aid by way of that in actualizing the worship of Allah.

That is because the intent behind the statement of Allah, ''And verily, to Our Lord we indeed are to return'', is acknowledgement of recompense and being prepared for that.  The objective of these favours is that they are an aid by which the slave (seeks) to fulfil that which Allah has designated for him (with regards to acts of worship and obedience Him)

And concerning Allaah's saying: ''And then may remember the favour of your Lord when you mount thereoný'', this is a specific mention of these (favours) in this state, (at the time in which these favours are being conferred upon the slave). That is because blessings intoxicates many amongst the creation and makes them more heedless of Allah.  It imposes upon them more evil and thanklessness.  Therefore, this state which Allah commanded (i.e. the state in which the slave remembers Allah for His Favours), is medication for this destructive ailment.

When the slave remembers that he is covered by the blessings of Allah and that nothing is from himself), rather blessings have an origin (i.e. all blessings are from Allah), and that its means are facilitated and its obtainment made easy, and that it remains and continues (and) that which opposes it is repelled, and that all of this is from Allaah; so when the slave recalls this (in his mind and heart), he submits to Allah, humbles himself and thanks and Praises Him.  And through that the slave is given continuous blessings.  Allaah blesses him in this, so that it becomes true blessings.

Etiquettes (To Be Observed) In The Gatherings Of The People

And when you sit with the people and congregate with them, then make humility the sign by which you are recognized (i.e. a characteristic of yours), and let Fear of Allaah be your cover (i.e. that which protects from sins), and giving advice to the servants of Allaah as your abiding way.

Be eager to (make) every gathering in which you sit with the (people) to be that which comprises goodness.  Either research into affairs of knowledge; or advice on religious matters; or direction towards a general or particular Maslahah (benefit); or making mention of the blessings of Allaah; or making mention of the superior status of praiseworthy manners, and good etiquettes; or warning against that which is detrimental to the wellbeing of one's religious or worldly (affairs).  And the least of that is that they seek the gains from their occupations by way of the permissible (means) and not the forbidden (means).

And that you behave well with the young, the old, and your peers.  And that you deal with each of them in a way they deserve, and to have respect for the one that deserves to be respected and honoured.

Be eager to make your sitting (with the people) at ease by way of (uttering) speech that is appropriate and good, even if that was in relation to the worldly (affairs).  That is because when (permissible speech) and (permissible gathering) becomes fruitful/turns out well, sitting together becomes easy, conversation is made easy, the heart feels tranquillity, and all of that returns to praiseworthiness/is attributed to praiseworthiness.

The sensible resolute one/the steadfast one achieves abundant goodness by way of the gatherings of the people, and he becomes more beloved to them than all (beloved things).  This is because he enters upon them with (matters) which they approve of, and sayings which they desire.  And the foundation in all that is success in taking over control of all the affairs placed before them.

And these affairs become more emphasized in a journey (i.e. when people accompany one another on a journey).  This is because during a journey sitting together is prolonged, and the travellers are in need of having someone who revives their hearts with good statements, the news of events, and joke, (if all this is truth and not too much), and to assist them with the essential matters of travel.

Good etiquettes makes (the one who possess it) more pleasurable to the people than the pleasure derived from a cold drink, and its weight/influence bears heavier upon their souls than hard stones.

He (Subhaanah) is the one who caused the dissimilarities between His slaves with regards to their manners, actions, and in all of their affairs.

And Allaah (Alone) is the One Who grants success.

A GOLDEN ADVICE AND MEDICATION FOR THE HEART

Ibn Abee Haatim(.328H) Rahimahullaah said:

''I entered Damascus and came upon the students of hadeeth, and I passed by the circle of Qaasim al Joo'ee(d.248 AH). I found a  group sitting around him and he was speaking. Their appearance amazed me; and I heard him saying:

''Seize The Benefit Of Five Things From The People Of Your Time:

When you are present,you are not known;

When you are absent you are not missed;

When you are seen, your advice is not sought;

When you say something, your saying is not accepted;

And when you have some knowledge, you are not given anything for it.

I Also Advise You With Five Matters:

When you are treated unjustly,do not behave unjustly;

When you are praised, do not become happy;

When you are criticised, do not become upset;

When you are not believed, do not become angry;

And if people act deceitfully towards you, do not act deceitfully towards them.''

Ibn Abee Haatim said:''So I took that as my benefit from Damascus.''

When Allaah Prevents His Believing Slaves From Something In Relation To What They Want, He Then Opens For Them Doors That Are More Beneficial, Easier And Better Than What They Wanted

This is from His (Jalla Wa-Alaa) kindness.

He (subhaanah) said:

''And wish not for the things in which Allaah has made some of you to excel others.  For men there is reward for that which they have earned, (and likewise) for women there is reward for what they have earned, and ask Allaah of His Bounty.'' (4:32)

He (Jalla Wa Alaa) forbade them from crime (by way of acting in a mean way, or being oppressive, or coveting what others have) in which there is no benefit, and He opened for them doors of bounty and goodness, and commanded them to ask Him (by way of supplication with statements) and (by way of attestation within their inner-selves)

And when Musa (alayhis salaam) asked to see his Lord, at the time he heard His (Jalla Wa Alaa) Speech, and Allaah prevented him from that, He (Jallaa Wa Alaa) consoled him with that which He gave him of tremendous good.

He (Jalla Wa Alaa) said:

''O Musa (Moses) I have chosen you above men by My Messages, and By My speaking (to you).  So hold that which I have given you and be of the grateful'' (7:144)

And His (subhaanah)saying:

''Whatever a Verse (revelation) do We abrogate or cause to be forgotten, We bring a better one or similar to it'' (2:106)

And His (subhaanah) saying:

''But if they separate (by divorce), Allaah will provide abundance for everyone of them from His bounty.'' (4:130)

And there are many verses with this meaning.

The Consequences Of Giving Preference To The Dunyah Over The Worship Of Allaah

The prophet (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam)said:

Allah says, ''O son of Aadam take time out to constantly worship me, I will fill your chest with richness, and remove your poverty.  And if you do not do so, I will make your hands filled with occupation, and will not remove your poverty'' (saheeh sunan at-tirmidhee of Al-Albaanee,2/300)

The prophet (sallal-laahu alayhi wasallam) also said:

''Your Lord,(All Glory and Honour be to Him)says, ''O son of Aadam! Take the time out to contantly worship Me, I will fill your chest with richness, O son of Aadam! Do not distance yourself from Me,or I will fill your chest with poverty, and fill your hands with work'' (As-Saheehah, No:1359)

We ask Allah for safety.

Whoever Abandons Something For Allaah's Sake Will Have It Substituted With That Which Is Better

This principle is found in many places in the Qur'aan.  And from that is what Allaah stated about the first immigrants, those who left their dwellings, wealth and beloved ones behind for the sake of Allaah; so Allaah substituted that for them with an enlarged provision, honour and authority in this worldly life.

And when Ibraaheem (alayhis salaam) disassociated himself from his people and from his father and that which they worshipped besides Allaah, Allah bestowed upon him Ishaaq, Yaqoob and Righteous Offspring.

And when Sulaymaan (alayhis salaam) became distracted by his horses from the remembrance of Allaah, he did away with them.  Allaah substituted it: ''So, We subjected to him the wind; it blew gently by his order whithersoever he willed.  And also the Shayaateen (devils) from the jinn (including) every kind of builder and diver'' (38:36-37)

And when the people of the cave (ahlul kahf) disassociated themselves from their people and that which they worshipped besides Allaah, Allaah bestowed upon them His Mercy, and facilitated for them means to success and tranquillity, and made them a guide for the misguided ones.

And Maryam (alayhas salaam),

''And she who guarded her chastity (virgin maryam), We breathed into (the sleeves of) her (shirt or garment) (through our RuhýJibraa-eel)ý, and We made her and her son (Eesaa) a sign for the Aalameen (mankind and jinn)''  (21:91)

And whoever abandons what his nafs calls him to, of lowly desires, He (subhaanah) will substitute it with love for Him(subhaanah), worship of Him (subhaanah), turning repentant to Him (subhaanah) and with that which is SUPERIOR to what is gathered for him of the pleasures of the worldly life.

The Permissibility Of Revenge Against The Transgressor, And Returning (Harm) Similar To Harm Caused.  Prohibition From Transgressing The Limits In Revenge Against The Transgressor, And Turning Towards Forgiveness And Benevolence

This is (found) in many Aayaat, such as the saying of Allaah:

''And if you punish (your enemy, O you believers in the Oneness of Allaah), then punish them with the like of that with which you were afflicted.  But if you endure patiently, verily, it is better for (the patient) 16:126

''The recompense for an evil is an evil like thereof; but whoever forgives and makes reconciliation, his reward is with Allaah.  Verily, He likes not the (wrong-doers).'' (42:40)

Mentioned (in the above) are the three levels:

Revenge, Returning Harm Similar To Harm Caused and Forgiveness

And fighting in the Masjid Al Haraam was prohibited, but Allaah said:

''But if they attack you, then kill them.  Such is the recompense of the disbelievers.''(2:191) ''But if they cease, then Allaah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful'' (2:193) ''The sacred month is for the sacred month, and for the prohibited things, there is the Law of Equality (Qisaas)''(2:194)

And that (includes) all the things forbidden by Allaah and all the things He commanded compliance with.  Therefore, Allaah has permitted revenge against the one who violate these affairs in accordance with the degree of this violation, and not more than that.

And He (subhaanah) said:

''Then whoever transgresses the prohibition against you, you transgress likewise against him.  And fear Allaah''(2:194)

And Allaah said:

''O you who believe! Al Qisaas (the Law of Equality in punishment) is prescribed for you in case of murder: the free for the free, the slave for the slave, and the female for the femaleý.''(2:178)

And Allaaah said:

''And We ordained therein for them: ''Life for life''(5:45)

And Allaah said:

''And whoever is killed wrongfully (intentionally with hostility and oppression and not by mistake), We have given his heir the authority (to demand Qisaas, -Law of Equality in punishment-or to forgive, or to take Diyah (blood-money).  But let him not exceed limits in the matter of taking life (i.e. he should not kill except the killer).  Verily, he is helped (by the Islaamic law)(17:33)

And Allaah said:

''Allaah does not like that the evil should be uttered in public except by him who has been wronged''(4:148)

The Aayaat with this meaning are many, and Allah knows best.

Kind Words, Forgiveness, Charity

Allaah (Subhaanah) said:

''Kind words and forgiving of faults are better than charity followed by injury.  And Allaah is Rich (Free of all needs) and He is Most-Forbearing''

''O you who believe! Do not render in vain your charity by reminders of your generosity or by injury, like him who spends his wealth to be seen of men, and he does not believe in Allaah, nor in the Last Day.  His likeness is the likeness of a smooth rock on which is a little dust; on it falls heavy rain which leaves it bare.  They are not able to do anything with what they have earned.  And Allaah does not guide the disbelieving people''

''And the likeness of those who spend their wealth seeking Allaah's Pleasure while they in their ownselves are sure and certain that Allaah will reward them (for their spending in His Cause), is the likeness of a garden on a height; heavy rain falls on it and it doubles its yield of harvest.  And if it does not receive rain, light rain suffices it. And Allaah is All-Seer (knows well) of what you do''

If You Abandon That Which Is Of Benefit, You Will Be Tried With That Which Is Harmful

The Qur'aan has shown in a number of Aayaat, that one will be tested with pre-occupying himself with what harms him when he abandons what is of benefit for him whilst having ability to reach that.  And he will be prevented from reaching the first affair (i.e. the benefit he abandoned in the first place).

This is found in a number of Aayaat; that when the polytheists shunned the worship of Ar-Rahmaan (Allaah-subhaanah), they were put to test with the worship of images (idols)

And when they displayed haughtiness (with regards them not yielding obediently to the command of the Messengers), and claimed that the Messengers were (only) humans, they were put to test with submission to everything that rendered the intellect and Religion unstable.

And when Eemaan was clearly shown to them at the first instance, and they recognised (and) then abandoned it, Allaah (subhaanah) averted, afflicted and sealed their hearts.  So, they did not believe until they perceived the painful punishment.

After the Siraatal Musta-qeem was clarified for them, and they deviated from it by choice and approved the path of deviation in opposition to the path of guidance, they were punished.  Allaah deviated their hearts and caused them to be confounded in their path.

And when they belittled the signs of Allaah and His Messengers, Allaah belittled them with a humiliating punishment.  And when they displayed haughtiness (with regards not submitting to the truth), Allaah humiliated them in this life and the next.

And when they forbade that Allaah's Name be glorified and mentioned in the Mosques of Allaah and strive for their ruin, then it was not fitting after that they should enter it except in fear.

''And of them are some who made a covenant with Allaah (saying): ''If He bestowed on us of His Bounty, we will verily give Sadaqah (Zakat and voluntary charity in Allaah's cause) and will be certainly among those who are righteous.  ''Then when He gave them of His Bounty, they became niggardly [refused to pay the Sadaqah (Zakat or voluntary charity)], and turned away, averse.  So He punished them by putting hypocrisy into their hearts till the Day whereon they shall meet him, because they broke that (covenant with Allaah) which they had promised to Him and because they used to tell lies''( 9:75-77)

The Aayaat with this meaning are numerous.  And in such (aayaat) is that; the slave was close to being guided and made to traverse the Siraatal Musta-qeem, and then he abandoned it after knowing it, and renounced it after having traversed upon it, so he is punished and has no right to guidance.  This is a recompense for his actions, as Allaah said about the yahood:

''And when there came to them a Messenger from Allaah (i.e Muhammad) confirming what was with them, a party of those who were given the Scripture threw away the Book of Allaah behind their backs as if they did not know!  They followed what the (devils) gave out (falsely of the magic) in the lifetime of Sulaymaan''.  2:101-102

They abandoned the most sublime, the most beneficial, and the most truthful of the Books (i.e. the Qur'aan), so Allaah put them to test with following that which is the most debased, most untruthful, and most harmful.

Those who wage war against Allaah and His Messenger abandon spending their wealth in obedience to Allaah, and (instead) spend it in obedience to shaytaan.

Cure For Self Amazement

Imam Ibnul Qayyim (rahimahullaah) states in Al Fawaa-id that Ibn Sad (rahimahullaah) mentions in At Tabaqaat about Umar Bin Abdul Azeez (rahimahullaah) that:

Whenever he delivered a khutbah on the mimbar, and feared being amazed by himself; he would terminate it (i.e. the khutbah)

And whenever he wrote a letter and feared amazement by way of it; he would tear it.

And he would say: ''O Allaah! I seek refuge in you from the evil of my nafs.''

Imaam Ibnul Qayyim (rahimahullaah) said in Al Fawaa-id (page:239-240)

Ikhlaas and Tawheed is a tree in the heart.  Its branches are the the Actions, and its fruits are the good life in this dunyaah and everlasting bliss in the aakhirah.

And just as the fruits of Jannah are neither cut off (by change of season) nor out of reach, likewise is the case with the fruits of Tawheed and Ikhlaas.

Shirk, lies, and riyaa is a tree in the heart.  Its fruits in the dunyaah are fear and anxiety, grief and distress of the breast and oppression upon the heart.  Its fruits in the afterlife are the tree of zaqqoom and an everlasting punishment.

And Allaah has made mention of these two trees in soorah al Ibraaheem:

''See you not how Allaah sets forth a parable?  A goodly word as a goodly tree, whose root is firmly fixed, and its branches (reach) to the sky (i.e. very high). Giving its fruits at all times, by the Leave of its Lord, and Allaah sets forth parables for mankind in order that they may remember. And the parable of an evil word is that of an evil tree uprooted from the surface of earth, having no stability''(14:24-26)

The Sublime Quality Of Bravery

Imaam Sadi (rahimahullaah) said:

This is a great quality commanded by Allaah in many aayaat (in all the aayaat concerning Jihaad).

He (subhaanah) has praised its people, and informed that it is the path of the Messengers and the Truthful amongst the creation.

He (subhaanah) forbade that which is in opposition to it, and that is cowardice, to lose courage and fear of the creation whilst striving in the path of dawah and with the sword.

This sublime quality is innate within the slave, and is strengthened by virtue of Imaan.  Therefore, the slave is in need of being trained by way of it, and made to traverse designated paths upon it.  Bravery strengthens and makes the heart firm, and gives it tranquillity in times of important events and distressful situations.

A Reminder To THe Salafi Tullaabul Ilm And The Du-aat In THe Various Salafi Maraakiz

''He (subhaanah) forbade that which is in opposition to it, and that is cowardice, to lose courage, and fear of the creation whilst striving in the path of dawah and with the sword.''

Then upon you O tullaabul ilm and du-aat in the various salafi centres in the West: is that you continue to refer to ahlul ilm, and then seek the Aid and Assistance of your Lord in speaking the haqq.

Neither fear the blame of the opposers of the usool of salafiyyah nor become disheartened by the fact that many a people often choose the path of blameworthy silence, after being aware of the haqq and its people.  This is a disease that has afflicted many a people.

So may Allaah protect you from cowardice and blameworthy silence, and increase you in wisdom, bravery, and love for the haqq and its people.

Abu Mu-aawiyyah Abdullaah Bin AbuBakr Al fulaani Al Gambi

abdullah.gambi    -- 06-07-2007 @ 6:21 PM

In particular, Bravery is a necessity for those leaders involved in important affairs.

The Qur'aan calls to it, and to every path that is particularized with it.  It (The Qurýan) commands fear of Him Alone (fear of Allaah Alone), and that the slave is not to fear the creation.

The slave's heart is strengthened when he limits his fear to fearing Allaah Alone, and knows that the creation do not have the ability to benefit or harm him, except by the will of Allaah.

His heart is increased in strength when he places his reliance on Allaah, and has a firm standing upon that, just as He (subhaanah) said about the best of the creation (i.e. Muhammad):

''Those unto whom the people said, ''Verily, the people have gathered against you (a great army), therefore, fear them.''  But it (only) increased them in Faith, and they said:  ''Allaah (Alone) is Sufficient for us, and He is the Best Disposer of affairs (for us)'' (3:173)

His strength and bravery increases when he knows of the results of good reward and recompense that follows on from being strengthened in Bravery and Religion, just as Allaah has informed in His (subhaanah) saying:

''If you are suffering (hardships) then surely, they (too) are suffering (hardships) as you are suffering, but you have a hope from Allaah (for the reward, i.e. Paradise) that for which they hope not.'' (4:104)

And that which is observed from the creation, and known about their situation and characteristics; is that they neither own anything of benefit nor assistance and protection, and that exalting them cannot benefit the slave in anything, and that dispraising them cannot harm him in anything, and that they do not want good for you, except with regards to that which is of benefit to them.

Then, it must be known that attaching the heart to them with Fear, Veneration, Awe, Fervent Desire and Reverence; all of that is a loss, rather it is harm.

Indeed, it is incumbent on the slave that he attaches his Fear, Hope, Expectation and Awe to Allaah (Alone), Who (Alone) (subhaanah) owns everything.  He (subhaanah) is the one who wants good for you when you do not want that for your self.

He (subhaanah) knows of that which is for your well-being of that which you do not know, and He (subhaanah) makes you receive that by way of what you do not have any capability of, and by way of what you do not want.

Benefits Of Bravery

The slave realizes that cowardice is an illness and a weakness in the heart, which causes abandonment of good and loss of beneficial things.  (Cowardice) afflicts the weak ones, and the one afflicted by it is like timid women.

And from the benefits of Bravery are:

The commands of Allaah and His Messenger are carried out.

To be described with the characteristics of the people of insight amongst the men of understanding.

And there cannot be a greater means to obtaining that which is sought after and a means to safety from difficulties and troubles, when the heart is strengthened with what Allaah sends down upon it of relief and tranquillity.   The brave individual is enabled to guide and benefit the creation with wisdom and fair speech, with their different social classes. As for the coward, he misses a great deal of good, and fear prevents him from the blessings of his knowledge and from guiding and giving sincere advice to the slaves.

The slave is saved from a lot of hardships through bravery.  He finds tranquillity when faced with afflictions and calamities, and responds to that with what Allaah loves of patience and firmness, whilst hoping for reward (Allaah's Reward).  As for the coward, he is distracted and that which is of benefit to him is wasted away when these affairs come upon him.  He is made to waiver through harmful views, which bring about painful things alongside calamities and difficulties.  He looses the good and the reward for being put under hardship.

This praiseworthy quality (Bravery) is from the excellent quality that originates from that all-inclusive quality, and that is Patience.

Yahya Bin Mu-aad (rahimahullaah) said:

I am amazed by three:

A man who performs actions showing off to the creation and abandons performing such actions for Allaah.

A man who is miserly with his wealth.  His Lord lends it to him, and he does not lend anything of it.

A man who is desirous of the companionship and love of the people, whilst Allaah calls him to the Companionship and Love of Him.

The True Faqeeh

Indeed, the Salaf did not designate the name faqeeh, except to the one whose knowledge was accompanied by action; as when Sad bin Ibraaheem was asked, ''who amongst the people of madina was most superior in understanding'', he said, ''the one with more taqwah''

Farqad As Subkhee asked Hassan al Basree about some affair, so he answered him.  Then he (farqad) said, ''Indeed, the fuqahaa are in opposition to you''.  So Al Hassan said, ''may your mother be bereaved of you Farqad, and have you seen a faqeeh with your eyes?  Rather a faqeeh is one who abstains from the dunyah and has a fervent desire for the Afterlife.  He is one who has insight in his religion and is constant in the worship of his Lord.  He neither speaks ill of the one above him nor does he mock at the one below him, and he does not look for a gain from knowledge Allaah has bestowed upon him''.

Some of the Salaf said: Indeed the faqeeh is the one who neither makes the people despair of Allaah's mercy, nor does he make them feel secure of Allaah's plan, nor does he call to the Qur'aan and desires what is in opposition to it.

The Faithful Slaves Of Allaah (Sura Furqaan 25: 63-77)

And the slaves of the Most Beneficent (Allaah) are those who walk on the earth in humility and sedateness, and when the foolish address them (with bad words) they reply back with mild words of gentleness.

And those who spend the night before their Lord, prostrate and standing.

And those who say: "Our Lord! Avert from us the torment of Hell. Verily! Its torment is ever an inseparable, permanent punishment.

Evil indeed it (Hell) is as an abode and as a place to dwell.

And those, who, when they spend, are neither extravagant nor niggardly, but hold a medium (way) between those (extremes).

And those who invoke not any other ilaah (god) along with Allaah, nor kill such life as Allaah has forbidden, except for just cause, nor commit illegal sexual intercourse and whoever does this shall receive the punishment.

The torment will be doubled to him on the Day of Resurrection, and he will abide therein in disgrace;   Except those who repent and believe (in Islaamic Monotheism), and do righteous deeds, for those, Allaah will change their sins into good deeds, and Allýh is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

Except those who repent and believe (in Islaamic Monotheism), and do righteous deeds, for those, Allaah will change their sins into good deeds, and Allaah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

And those who do not witness falsehood, and if they pass by some evil play or evil talk, they pass by it with dignity.

And those who, when they are reminded of the Ayaat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) of their Lord, fall not deaf and blind thereat.

And those who say: "Our Lord! Bestow on us from our wives and our offspring who will be the comfort of our eyes, and make us leaders for the Muttaqýn" (pious).

Those will be rewarded with the highest place (in Paradise) because of their patience. Therein they shall be met with greetings and the word of peace and respect.

Abiding therein; excellent it is as an abode, and as a place to dwell.

Say (O Muhammad to the disbelievers): "My Lord pays attention to you only because of your invocation to Him. But now you have indeed denied (Him). So the torment will be yours for ever (inseparable permanent punishment).

We ask Allaah to grant us Tawfeeq to be from them.

Allaah(subhaanah) said:

Set not up with Allaah any other ilaah (god), (O man)! This verse is addressed to Prophet Muhammad, but its implication is general to all mankind), or you will sit down reproved, forsaken (in the Hell-fire).

And your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him. And that you be dutiful to your parents. If one of them or both of them attain old age in your life, say not to them a word of disrespect, nor shout at them but address them in terms of honour.

And lower unto them the wing of submission and humility through mercy, and say: "My Lord! Bestow on them Your Mercy as they did bring me up when I was small."

Your Lord knows best what is in your inner-selves. If you are righteous, then, verily, He is Ever Most Forgiving to those who turn unto Him again and again in obedience, and in repentance.

And give to the kindred his due and to the Mis'keen (poor) and to the wayfarer. But spend not wastefully (your wealth) in the manner of a spendthrift

Verily, spendthrifts are brothers of the Shayaaateen (devils), and the Shaitaan (Devil  Satan) is ever ungrateful to his Lord.

And if you (O Muhammad) turn away from them (kindred, poor, wayfarer, etc. whom We have ordered you to give their rights, but if you have no money at the time they ask you for it) and you are awaiting a mercy from your Lord for which you hope, then, speak unto them a soft kind word (i.e. Allaah will give me and I shall give you).

And let not your hand be tied (like a miser) to your neck, nor stretch it forth to its utmost reach (like a spendthrift), so that you become blameworthy and in severe poverty.

Truly, your Lord enlarges the provision for whom He wills and straitens (for whom He wills). Verily, He is Ever All-Knower, All-Seer of His slaves.

And kill not your children for fear of poverty. We provide for them and for you. Surely, the killing of them is a great sin.

And come not near to the unlawful sexual intercourse. Verily, it is a Faahishah [i.e. anything that transgresses its limits (a great sin)], and an evil way (that leads one to Hell unless Allaah forgives him).

And do not kill anyone which Allaah has forbidden, except for a just cause. And whoever is killed (intentionally with hostility and oppression and not by mistake), We have given his heir the authority [(to demand Qisaas, Law of Equality in punishment or to forgive, or to take Diya (blood money)]. But let him not exceed limits in the matter of taking life (i.e he should not kill except the killer only). Verily, he is helped (by the Islaamic law).

And come not near to the orphan's property except to improve it, until he attains the age of full strength. And fulfil (every) covenant. Verily! the covenant, will be questioned about.

And give full measure when you measure, and weigh with a balance that is straight. That is good (advantageous) and better in the end.

And follow not (O man i.e., say not, or do not or witness not, etc.) that of which you have no knowledge (e.g. one's saying: "I have seen," while in fact he has not seen, or "I have heard," while he has not heard). Verily! The hearing, and the sight, and the heart, of each of those you will be questioned (by Allaah).

And walk not on the earth with conceit and arrogance. Verily, you can neither rend nor penetrate the earth, nor can you attain a stature like the mountains in height.

All the bad aspects of these (the above mentioned things) are hateful to your Lord.

Indeed, you have acquired the most evil and despicable of qualities, whilst not being able to achieve what you desire.

Having Good Suspicion For The Believers, Especially For THe ULema, THe Tullaabul Ilm And The Du-aat Of Salafiyyah

Allaah (subhaanahu-wata-aalaa) said:

''O you who believe! Avoid much suspicions, indeed some suspicions are sins''. 49:12

Imaam Sadi (rahimahullaah) said:

Allaah (Ta-aalaa) has forbidden much evil (sinful) suspicion towards the believers, because, indeed some suspicions are sin

And that is like the suspicion devoid of reality and factual evidence, and like the suspicion accompanied by much forbidden speech and action.  For indeed, the settlement of evil suspicion in the heart does not confine the one (in whose heart is that evil suspicion) only to that; rather, he does not stop at that until he utters and does that which is not permissible/befitting.

Allaah (subhaanah) said:

''There is no good in most of their secret talks save (in) him who orders Sadaqah (charity in Allaah's Cause), or Ma'roof (Islaamic Monotheism and all the good and righteous deeds which Allaah has ordained), or conciliation between mankind''4:114

Imaam Sadi (rahimahullaah) said:

That is: there is no good in most of their private conversations and speech with the people.  And if there is no good in that, then there will be no benefit in it; such as excessive permissible speech or speech that is evil and completely harmful; such as all types of haraam speech.

Then He (subhaanah) made an exception, saying: ''Save (in) him who orders Sadaqah (charity in Allaah's Cause)''; that is: through wealth, knowledge or any means of benefit.  And included in this are the lesser acts of worship, such as Tasbeeh (the utterance of Subhaanallaah) and Tahmeed (the utterance of Alhamdulil-laah) and its like, as the Prophet (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) said:

''Indeed, every Tasbeeh (utterance of Subhaanallaah) is sadaqah, and every Takbeer (utterance of Allaahu Akbar) is Sadaqah, and every Tahleel (utterance of Laa-ilaaha-ilal-lah) is Sadaqah, and Enjoining Good is Sadaqah, and Forbidding Evil is Sadaqah, and even when one of you has sexual intercourse (with his wife), there is  Sadaqah in that'' (Reported by Muslim)

He (subhaanah) then said: ''Or (one) who orders Maruf''; and that is perfection in worship and obedience, and everything that is known in the sharee-ah of goodness, and everything whose goodness is known by way of sound intellect.

And whenever enjoining good is mentioned without forbidding evil being mentioned alongside it, then Forbidding Evil is also included.  That is because abandonment of the prohibited things is from Maruf, and good action cannot be complete except with abandonment of evil.  And with regards to (dealings) with companions/associates, then Maruf is explained to mean commanding (good) actions, and Munkar is explained to mean abandonment of prohibitions.

abdullah.gambi    -- 22-10-2007 @ 7:38 PM

Then Allaah (subhaanallaah) said:

''Or (the one who enjoins) conciliation between mankind''

Conciliation does not occur except between those engaged in dispute and argumentation.  And it may not be possible to prevent the evil and splitting that necessarily (arises) from dispute, argumentation and rage towards one another.  For that reason the Legislator (Allaah-subhaanah) has directed the people towards conciliation with regards to (affairs) of Blood (killing), wealth and honour; rather even in the (affair) of the Deen, as Allaah (subhaanah) said:

''Hold on all of you to the Rope of Allaah and do not be divided''

And Allaah (subhaanah) said:

''And if two parties or groups among the believers fall to fighting, then make peace between them both, but if one of them rebels against the other, then fight you (all) against the one that which rebels till it complies with the Command of Allaah; then if it complies, then make reconciliation between them justly''49:9

And Allaah (subhaanah) said:

''Conciliation is good''

The one who hastens towards making conciliation between the people is better than the one devoted to (optional) salaah, fasting and the giving of sadaqah.  And Allaah (subhaanah) will difinately set right the work and eagerness of the one (who hastens towards making conciliation between the people); just as Allaah neither set right the work of the one who sows corruption nor would (such a person) completely reach what he aims at, as Allaah said:

''Verily, Allaah does not set right the work of Al-Mufsidoon (the evil-doers, corrupts, etc.)'' 10:81

Reconciliation And Rectification

Allaah (Ta-aalaa) said:

''But he who fears from a testator some unjust act or wrong-doing, and thereupon he makes PEACE BETWEEN THE PARTIES concerned, there shall be no sin on him. Certainly, Allýh is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful''. 2:182

And He (Ta-aalaa) said:

''And make not Allýh's (Name) an excuse in your oaths against your doing good and acting piously, and MAKING PEACE AMONG MANKIND.  And Allýh is All-Hearer, All-Knower (i.e. do not swear much and if you have sworn against doing something good then give an expiation for the oath and do good)''2:224

And He (Ta-aalaa) said:

''If you fear a breach between them twain (the man and his wife), appoint (two) arbitrators, one from his family and the other from her's; if they both wish for PEACE, Allaah will cause their RECONCILIATION.   Indeed Allaah is Ever All Knower, Well Acquainted with all things''. 4:35

And He (Ta-aalaa) said:

''And if a woman fears cruelty or desertion on her husband's part, there is no sin on them both if they MAKE TERMS OF PEACE BETWEEN THEMSELVES; and MAKING PEACE IS BETTER''. 4:128

And He (Ta-aalaa) said:

''There is no good in most of their secret talks save (in) him who orders Sadaqah (charity in Allýh's Cause), or Ma'rýf (Islýmic Monotheism and all the good and righteous deeds which Allýh has ordained), OR CONCILIATION BETWEEN MANKIND, and he who does this, seeking the good Pleasure of Allýh, We shall give him a great reward''.4:114

And He (Ta-aalaa) said:

''So fear Allýh and adjust all MATTERS OF DIFFERENCE AMONG YOU'' 8:1

And He (Ta-aalaa) said:

''The believers are nothing else than brothers (in Islýmic religion). So make RECONCILIATION between your brothers'' 49:10

And He (Ta-aalaa) said:

''And if two parties or groups among the believers fall to fighting, then MAKE PEACE between them both, but if one of them rebels against the other, then fight you (all) against the one that which rebels till it complies with the Command of Allýh; then if it complies, then make reconciliation between them justly, and be equitable. Verily! Allýh loves those who are equitable''.49:9

And He (Ta-aalaa) said:

''The recompense for an evil is an evil like thereof, but whoever FORGIVES AND MAKES RECONCILIATION, his reward is due from Allýh. Verily, He likes not the Zaalimoon (oppressors, polytheists, and wrong-doers, etc.)''42:40

Conciliation

Abee Dardaa (radiyallaahu-anhu) said that the Prophet (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) said: ''Shall I not inform you of something more excellent in degree than fasting, prayer and sadaqah? The people replied: Certainly, Prophet of Allah! He said: It is putting things right between people, for indeed spoiling it (i.e. that which is to be put right between the people) is the shaver (destruction)''.  (Hadith collected by Imaam Abu Dawood and declared saheeh by Imaam Al Albaanee)

Making conciliation between the people is from the greatest acts of seeking nearness and obedience to Allaah (subhaanah).  It is an obligation, and is carried out so that the society is (protected) from corruption and the severing of relationships between the people.  It is carried out so that love does not depart between the people, and is replaced with enmity, hatred, lies (against one another), vain speech, turmoil and chaos.

Making conciliation (between the people) is a means to having (one's) sins forgiven and a means to attaining Allaah's love.

When the people of truth are at difference and have hatred for one another, their hearts are hardened, and (they) become negligent of the rights (due to one another).  Love departs and corruption spreads and their enemies become dominant and the hypocrites rejoice.

Conciliation between the people is from Enjoining Good and Forbidding Evil.  He (subhaanah) said:

''And your Lord would never destroy the towns wrongfully, while their people were right-doers''11:117

Conciliation between the people is from Co-operating upon Bir and Taqwah.  He (subhaanah) said:

''Help you one another in Al-Birr and At-Taqwa (virtue, righteousness and piety); but do not help one another in Sin and Transgression. And fear Allaah'' 5:2

Conciliation between the people is a means to putting an end to splitting, argumentation, corruption, sins and transgression.  He (subhaanah) said:

''And do not do mischief on the earth, after it has been set in order''7:56

And He (subhaanah) said about Musaa (alayhis-salaam):

''And Moosaa (Moses) said to his brother Haaroon (Aaron): "Replace me among my people, act in a right way and follow not the way of the Mufsidoon (mischief-makers).''7:142

And Allaah (subhaanah) related upon the tongue of Shu-aib (alayhis-salaam):

''He (Shu-aib) said: ''O my people! Tell me; if I have a clear evidence from my Lord, and He has given me a good sustenance from Himself (shall I corrupt it by mixing it with the unlawfully earned money). I wish not, in contradiction to you, to do that which I forbid you. I only desire reform so far as I am able, to the best of my power. And my guidance cannot come except from Allaah, in Him I trust and unto Him I repent.''11:88

The Destruction Of Those Ungrateful Ones, Who Were Intoxicated By Wealth And The Glitter Of The Life Of This World

Allaah said:

Verily, Qaaroon (Korah) was of Moosaa's (Moses) people, but he behaved arrogantly towards them.  And We gave him of the treasures, that of which the keys would have been a burden to a body of strong men. When his people said to him: "Do not be glad (with ungratefulness to Allaah's Favours). Verily! Allaah likes not those who are glad (with ungratefulness to Allaah's Favours).

But seek, with that (wealth) which Allaah has bestowed on you, the home of the Hereafter, and forget not your portion of legal enjoyment in this world, and do good as Allýh has been good to you, and seek not mischief in the land. Verily, Allaah likes not the Mufsidoon (those who commit great crimes and sins, oppressors, tyrants, mischief-makers, corrupts).

He said: "This has been given to me only because of knowledge I possess." Did he not know that Allaah had destroyed before him generations, men who were stronger than him in might and greater in the amount (of riches) they had collected. But the Mujrimoon (criminals, disbelievers, polytheists, sinners, etc.) will not be questioned of their sins (because Allaah knows them well, so they will be punished without account).

So he went forth before his people in his pomp. Those who were desirous of the life of the world, said: "Ah, would that we had the like of what Qaaroon (Korah) has been given? Verily! He is the owner of a great fortune."

But those who had been given (religious) knowledge said: "Woe to you! The Reward of Allaah (in the Hereafter) is better for those who believe and do righteous good deeds, and this none shall attain except those who are patient (in following the truth)."

So We caused the earth to swallow him and his dwelling place. Then he had no group or party to help him against Allaah, nor was he one of those who could save themselves.

And those who had desired (for a position like) his position the day before, began to say: "Know you not that it is Allaah Who enlarges the provision or restricts it to whomsoever He pleases of His slaves. Had it not been that Allýh was Gracious to us, He could have caused the earth to swallow us up (also)! Know you not that the disbelievers will never be successful.

That home of the Hereafter (i.e. Paradise), We shall assign to those who rebel not against the truth with pride and oppression in the land nor do mischief by committing crimes. And the good end is for the Muttaqýn (the pious)

Whosoever brings good (Islaamic Monotheism along with righteous deeds), he shall have the better thereof, and whosoever brings evil (polytheism along with evil deeds) then, those who do evil deeds will only be requited for what they used to do. (Qur'aan 28:76-84)

A Reminder To The Salafi Students Of Knowledge And Callers, That They Have To Exercise Patience upon Receiving the Harmful Statements, Whilst Being Steadfast Upon The Worship Of Allaah

Allaah (subhuman) said:

''Be patient (O Muhammad) of what they say, and remember Our slave Daawood, endured with power.  Verily, he was ever oft-returning''38:17

Imaam Sadi (rahimahullaah) said:

''Be Patient Of What They Say''....just as the Messengers before you did exercise patience; for indeed, the statements of the (opponents, disbelievers, enemies) cannot harm anything of the truth.  They cannot harm you in anything, rather they only harm themselves.

''And Remember Our Slave Daawood, Endured With Power.  Verily, He Was Ever Oft-Returning''

After He (subhaanah) commanded His Messenger (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) to exercise patience with his people, He (subhaanah) (also) commanded him to seek help in patience upon worshipping Allaah (alone), and then made a mention of the situation of the worshippers, just as He stated in another ayah:

''So bear patiently (O Muhammad) what they say, and Glorify the praises of your Lord before the rising of the sun, and before its setting''20:130

And amongst the greatest of worshippers was the Prophet of Allaah Dawood (alayhis-salaam).  ''Endured with power'', that is:(having) great physical strength and great strength at heart in worshiping Allaah.

''Verily he (Daawood) was ever oft-returning'', that is: Returning to Him (subhaanah) in all affairs, with inaabah (turning repentantly), love, persevering commitment, fear, hope, and with much humility and supplication, and returning to Him (subhaanah) with abstention and sincere repentance when he committed mistakes.

If You Were To Put Your Trust In Allaah, Then You Would Be Provided For As The Birds Are

Umar (radiyallaahu-anhu) said: I heard the Messenger of Allaah (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) saying: ''If you were to put your trust in Allaah in the manner that He deserves, then you would be provided (with sustenance), as the birds are (provided for).  They go out early in the day with empty stomachs and return at the end of the day with full (stomachs)''.

Imaam Muhammad Ibn Saalih Al-Uthaymeen (rahimahullaah) commented on this hadith saying:

With regards to his (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) statement: ''In The Manner He (subhaanah) Deserves (To be trusted)'', that is: true reliance in Allaah, (and) complete dependence upon Allaah in seeking your provision and other than that.  ''Then You Would Be Provided With (Sustenance), As The Birds Are (Provided For)''

The bird's sustenance is with Allaah.  The birds do not have an owner, so they fly in the air and set out early in day in search of Allaah's Provision.  ''They go out early in the day with empty stomachs'', that is: in the early hours of the day with hunger and empty stomachs, as Allaah (subhaanah) said:

''But as for him who is forced by severe hunger, with no inclination to sin (such can eat these mentioned meats), then surely, Allaah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.''(5:3) And severe hunger is starvation.

''They go out early in the day with empty stomachs'', that is: with nothing in their stomachs.  However, they put their trust in their Lord (Azza-Wa-Jal), and ''return at the end of the day with full stomach''.  They return in the latter part of the day with stomachs filled with Allaah's Provision.

If You Were To Put Your Trust In Allaah, Then You Would Be Provided For As The Birds Are

So there are proofs in this (hadith) with regards to some affairs.

Firstly:it is incumbent upon the person to have true dependence upon Allaah.

Secondly: Indeed, there is no living creature on the earth, except that its provision is due from Allaah.  And even the bird in the sky, none holds it up in the sky besides Allaah, and none provides for it besides Allaah.

Every creature on the earth, be it as tiny as an atom or huge like an elephant and its likes, indeed its provision is due from Allaah, as Allaah (Ta-aalaa) said:

''And no (moving) living creature is there on earth but its provision is due from Allaah. And He knows its dwelling place and its deposit (in the uterus, grave, etc.)'' 11:6

And indeed the clearly misguided one is he who harbours suspicion towards his Lord.  He says, ''Do not bear many children, for you will not have enough provision''.  By the Lord of the Throne they have lied, for Allaah will give you more provison if you have more children; because there is not a living creature on the earth except that its provision is due from Allaah.  The provision for your children and (your) little ones is due from Allaah.  He (Allaah) is The One Who opens the doors of provision for you, in order that you may spend on them (your children).

However, many people harbour an evil suspicion towards Allaah and are dependent on materialistic ideas.   They do not look at (the affairs) with far sightedness and in accordance with Allaah's Absolute Ability, and that He (subhaanah) is The One Who provides even if the children are many.  The more children you have, the more provision you will be given.  This is the correct (belief/statement).

And in this is evidence, that the one who truely relies on Allaah will  (also) utilise the means (to attaining what he seeks after).  And the misguided one is he who says, "I will not utilize the means and I am one who relies on Allaah''.  This is not correct.

The one, who has true reliance in Allah is he who utilizes the means whilst depending on Allaah (Azza-Wa-Jal).  That is why he (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) said:

"Then you would be provided (with sustenance), as the birds are (provided for).  They go out early in the day with empty stomachs"

So (the bird) goes out in search of sustenance and does not stay in its nest; rather it sets out early in search of sustenance.

abdullah.gambi    -- 14-12-2007 @ 7:50 PM

If You Were To Put Your Trust In Allaah, Then You Would Be Provided For As The Birds Are

So after truly depending on Allaah, you must (also) take the means that Allaah has provided in seeking permissible sustenance, through agriculture, trade, work and through any means of seeking sustenance.  Seek sustenance whilst being dependant upon Allaah and Allaah will make it easy for you to obtain it.

And from the benefits of this hadith is that: the birds and other than them of Allaah's creation do know Allaah, as Allaah (subhaanah) said:

"The seven heavens and the earth and all that is therein, glorify Him and there is not a thing but glorifies His Praise" ; that is: there is not a thing except that it glorifies Allaah, " But you understand not their glorification".

"See you not that to Allaah prostrates whoever is in the heavens and whoever is on the earth, and the sun, and the moon, and the stars, and the mountains, and the trees, and Ad-Dawaab (moving living creatures, beasts, etc.), and many of mankind? But there are many (men) on whom the punishment is justified. And whomsoever Allaah disgraces, none can honour him. Verily! Allaah does what He wills".

The birds do know their Lord (Azza-Wa-Jal).  The bird seeks after the provision Allaah has allocated for it, through a natural disposition that guides it to what is beneficial for it, and returns to its nest in the early part of the evening with a full stomach.  This is what it does everyday.  Allaah (Azza-Wa-Jal) provides it with sustenance and makes it easy for it to obtain it.  And look at the Wisdom of Allaah! How the birds set off early to a far away place and are guided back to their place of (residence) without failing to find it; because Allaah gave to each thing its form and nature, then guided it aright.

Then he should pre-occupy himself with Prayer, Remembrance of Allaah, Recitation of the Qur'aan and Knowledge.  He either teaches or learns, or listens.  He gives advice to those in the mosque and directs them to that which contains good.  And he does not pre-occupy himself with other than that, being engrossed in the affairs of the dunyaah, for the Mosques have not been built, except for seeking nearness to Allaah, whilst the other places are for exploring and pre-occupation with the (affairs) of the Dunyaah

Reflection

Allaah (subhaanah) said:

So I swear by Mawaaqi (setting or the mansions, etc.) of the stars (they traverse).  And verily, that is indeed a great oath, if you but know. That (this) is indeed an honourable recital (the Noble Qur'aan).  In a Book well-guarded (with Allaah in the heaven i.e. Al-Lauh Al-Mahfooz). Which (that Book with Allýh) none can touch but the purified (i.e. the angels). A Revelation (this Qur'aan) from the Lord of the 'Alameen (mankind, jinns and all that exists).

Is it such a talk (this Qur'an) that you (disbelievers) deny? And instead (of thanking Allaah) for the provision He gives you, on the contrary, you deny Him (by disbelief)! Then why do you not (intervene) when (the soul of a dying person) reaches the throat? And you at the moment are looking on, But We (i.e. Our angels who take the soul) are nearer to him than you, but you see not, Then why do you not, if you are exempt from the reckoning and recompense (punishment, etc.) Bring back the soul (to its body), if you are truthful?

Then, if he (the dying person) be of the Muqarraboon (those brought near to Allaah), (There is for him) rest and provision, and a Garden of delights (Paradise). And if he (the dying person) be of those on the Right Hand, Then there is safety and peace (from the Punishment of Allýh) for (you as you are from) those on the Right Hand.

But if he (the dying person) be of the denying (of the Resurrection), the erring (away from the Right Path of Islaamic Monotheism), Then for him is entertainment with boiling water. And burning in Hell-fire.

Verily, this! This is an absolute Truth with certainty. So glorify with praises the Name of your Lord, the Most Great. 56:75-96

Part Of  The Perfection Of A Person's Islaam Is Leaving That Which Is Of No Concern To Him

On the authority of Abu Hurairah (radiyallaahu-anhu) who said:  The Messenger of Allaah (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) said, ''Part of the perfection of a person's Islaam is his leaving that which is of no concern to him'' (Hassan Hadith. Reported by Imaam Tirmidhi and others)

Imaam Muhammad Ibn Saaleh al Uthaimeen (rahimahullaah) said:

From the benefits of this narration are:

1. Indeed, Islaam gathers all the excellent qualities.  Our Sheikh Abdur Rahmaan Bin Sa'di (rahimahullaah) has written a treatise on this topic (titled): 'The Excellence of The Religion Of Islaam'.  Likewise, Sheikh Abdul Azeez Bin Muhammad Bin Sulaymaan (rahimahullaah) has written a treatise on this topic.

And all the excellent qualities of Islaam are gathered upon two statements.  Allaah (Azza-Wa-Jal) said:

''Verily, Allaah enjoins Al Adl (i.e. justice and worshipping none but Allaah Alone) and Al-Ihsaan [i.e. to be patient in performing your duties to Allaah, totally for Allaah's sake and in accordance with the Sunnah (legal ways) of the Prophet in a perfect manner.'' 16:90

2. Part of the perfection of (a Person's) Islaam is his leaving what is of no importance to him and that which has no connection to his affairs and needs.

3. One cannot perfect his Islaam through preoccupying himself with what does not concern him.  This happens to many people, so you either find him speaking about affairs that do not concern him, or a person asks him about affairs that do not concern him and he enters into what does not concern him.  This leads to weakening of (one's Islaam).

4. Indeed, it is incumbent upon the person to seek after the excellent qualities of Islaam, in order to abandon what does not concern him and be at ease.  He will exhaust himself if he busies himself with affairs that are neither important nor of concern to him.

And an obscurity occurs on this point here, and that is: Does the slave's abandonment of that which does not concern him (mean) that he is to abandon Enjoining Good and Forbidding Evil?

The Answer:

No, because Enjoining Good and Forbidding Evil is something that concerns the person, as Allaah (Azza-Wa-Jal) said:

''Let there arise out of you a group of people inviting to all that is good and forbidding Al-Munkar'' 3:104

So if you see a person upon evil, you should say to him, ''O brother! This is a munkar. It is not permissible''.  The person who witnesses that have no right to say, "This does not concern me", and it will not be accepted were you to say that; because enjoining good and forbidding evil concerns whole ummah.

And there is (also) what is connected to one's the family, his sons and daughters (of enjoining good and forbidding evil).  It is the concern of the shepherd of the house to guide them towards good and command them with it, and to warn them against evil and prohibit them from that.  He (Azza-Wa-Jal) said:

"O you who believe! Ward off yourselves and your families against a Fire (Hell) whose fuel is men and stones" 66:6

Imaam Sa'di (rahimahullaah) said:

The Good Doer busies himself with what concerns him from the obligations and abandons disobedience and evil deeds.  He (abandons) that which does not befit him of the detested affairs, and those permissible things that bring him no benefit, rather he loses goodness by indulging in such affairs.  So his (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) statement: "Part of the perfection of a person's Islaam is his leaving that which is of no concern to him" has a more general meaning than what we have mentioned.

And the general meaning of this hadith is:

The one who does not abandon that which does not concern him will harm his Islaam.  That is why all the forbidden statements and actions are either prohibited with the verdict of "Haraam" or with a prohibition (indicating the abhorrence or repugnance of such statements and actions)

Exalting Worldly Possessions And Status Was One Of The Characteristics Of The People Of The Era Of Pre-Islaamic Ignorance

Imaam Muhammad Bin Abdul Wahhaab (rahimahullaah) stated in Masaa-ilil Jaahiliyyah:

[The Worldly Life Was Exalted In Their Hearts, As He (Ta-aalaa) said (that they said): ''Why Is Not This Qur'aan Sent Down To Some Great Man Of The Two Towns'' 43:31]

Sheikh Saaleh al Fawzaan (hafidha-hullaah) commented, saying:

From the affairs of the Pre-Islaamic Era of Ignorance was that the worldly life was exalted in their hearts.  So they regarded the one who possessed (the things of the worldly life) to be honourable and the one who was not in possession of the (things of the worldly life) to be of lowly (status) and despised.

And even in the affair of Risaalah (Messengership), which is Allaah's (absolute choice), they saw that it should be given to the rich people and not the poor people.  And they said, "Allaah found (none), except an orphan of Abu Taalib to send (as a Messenger)? They were referring to Muhammad (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam)]

"And they say: "Why is not this Qurýaan sent down to some great man of the two towns'' 43:31

The two towns are Makkah and Madina.  And this (great man) in Makkah is Waleed Bin Mugheerah or Habeeb Bin Amr Ath-thaqafee, and it is said that the great man in Taa'if is Urwa Bin Mas'ood.  The (people of the era of Pre-Islaamic Ignorance) said, if the Message was given to one of these two great men, it would have been befitting to be (regarded) a Message, but it does not befit them to think that it is given to a poor orphan (Muhammad-sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam).

He (Ta-aalaa) said:

"Is it they who would portion out the mercy of your Lord'' 43:32

That is: they interfered in Allaah's Actions (i.e. in what Allaah decrees and carries out).  They wanted to portion out Allaah's Mercy and did not testify to that which Allaah portioned out (of His Mercy), whilst ''Allaah knows best with whom to place his message''6:124

Reflection

Allaah (subhaanah) said:

Has there not been over man a period of time, when he was nothing to be mentioned?   Verily, We have created man from Nutfah drops of mixed semen (discharge of man and woman), in order to try him, so We made him hearer, seer.   Verily, We showed him the way, whether he be grateful or ungrateful.

Verily, We have prepared for the disbelievers iron chains, iron collars, and a blazing Fire.   Verily, the Abraar (pious, who fear Allaah and avoid evil), shall drink a cup (of wine) mixed with water from a spring in Paradise called Kaafoor.  A spring wherefrom the slaves of Allaah will drink, causing it to gush forth abundantly.

They (are those who) fulfill (their) vows, and they fear a Day whose evil will be wide-spreading.   And they give food, inspite of their love for it (or for the love of Him), to Miskin (poor), the orphan, and the captive,  (Saying): "We feed you seeking Allaah's Countenance only. We wish for no reward, nor thanks from you.  "Verily, We fear from our Lord a Day, hard and distressful, that will make the faces look horrible (from extreme dislikeness to it)." So Allaah saved them from the evil of that Day, and gave them Nadratan (a light of beauty) and joy.

And their recompense shall be Paradise, and silken garments, because they were patient.  Reclining therein on raised thrones, they will see there neither the excessive heat of the sun, nor the excessive bitter cold, (as in Paradise there is no sun and no moon).   And the shade thereof is close upon them, and the bunches of fruit thereof will hang low within their reach.   And amongst them will be passed round vessels of silver and cups of crystal,    Crystal-clear, made of silver. They will determine the measure thereof according to their wishes.

And they will be given to drink there a cup (of wine) mixed with Zanjabeel (ginger, etc.),  A spring there, called Salsabeel.   And round about them will (serve) boys of everlasting youth. If you see them, you would think them scattered pearls.  And when you look there (in Paradise), you will see a delight (that cannot be imagined), and a great dominion.  Their garments will be of fine green silk, and gold embroidery. They will be adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord will give them a pure drink.    (And it will be said to them): "Verily, this is a reward for you, and your endeavour has been accepted."

Verily! It is We Who have sent down the Qur'aan to you (O Muhammad) by stages.  Therefore be patient (O Muhammad) and submit to the Command of your Lord (Allaah, by doing your duty to Him and by conveying His Message to mankind), and obey neither a sinner nor a disbeliever among them.

And remember the Name of your Lord every morning and afternoon [i.e. offering of the Morning (Fajr), Zuhr, and 'Asr prayers].   And during night, prostrate yourself to Him (i.e. the offering of Maghrib and 'Ishaa' prayers), and glorify Him a long night through (i.e. Tahajjud prayer).

Verily! These (disbelievers) love the present life of this world, and put behind them a heavy Day (that will be hard). It is We Who created them, and We have made them of strong built. And when We will, We can replace them with others like them with a complete replacement.

Verily! This (Verses of the Qur'aan) is an admonition, so whosoever wills, let him take a Path to his Lord (Allaah).   But you cannot will, unless Allaah wills. Verily, Allaah is Ever All-Knowing, All-Wise. He will admit to His Mercy whom He will and as for the Zaalimoon, (polytheists, wrong-doers, etc.) He has prepared a painful torment.

[Qur'aan: 76:1-31]

One's Engagement In Forbidden Affairs Is Either Due To Him Possessing Little Knowledge Or Being Weak In His Discernment

The slave commits not what has been made forbidden for him, except in two ways:

Firstly: The slave's evil suspicion of his Lord; that had he obeyed and gave preference to his (Lord); He would not have given him something better from the permissible things.

Secondly:  The slave's awareness of that (evil), and that whoever leaves something for the Sake of Allaah, He (subhaanah) will replace it with something better.  However, his lusts overwhelm his patience and his desires overwhelm his intellect.

The first (instance) is due to a weakness in one's knowledge and the second (instance) is due to a weakness in one's intelligence and discernment.

How Often Do We Advice Our Children With The Advice Of Luqmaan

And (remember) when Luqmaan said to his son when he was advising him: "O my son! Join not in worship others with Allaah. Verily! Joining others in worship with Allaah is a great Zulm (wrong) indeed.

And We have enjoined on man (to be dutiful and good) to his parents. His mother bore him in weakness and hardship upon weakness and hardship, and his weaning is in two years give thanks to Me and to your parents, unto Me is the final destination.

But if they (both) strive with you to make you join in worship with Me others that of which you have no knowledge, then obey them not, but behave with them in the world kindly, and follow the path of him who turns to Me in repentance and in obedience. Then to Me will be your return, and I shall tell you what you used to do.

"O my son! If it be (anything) equal to the weight of a grain of mustard seed, and though it be in a rock, or in the heavens or in the earth, Allaah will bring it forth. Verily, Allaah is Subtle (in bringing out that grain), Well Aware (of its place).

"O my son! Aqimis-Salaat (perform As-Salaat), enjoin (people) for Al-Ma'ruuf (Islaamic Monotheism and all that is good), and forbid (people) from Al-Munkar (i.e. disbelief in the Oneness of Allaah, polytheism of all kinds and all that is evil and bad), and bear with patience whatever befall you. Verily! These are some of the important commandments ordered by Allaah with no exemption.

"And turn not your face away from men with pride, nor walk in insolence through the earth. Verily, Allaah likes not each arrogant boaster.

"And be moderate (or show no insolence) in your walking, and lower your voice. Verily, the harshest of all voices is the voice (braying) of the ass."

The Fitnah Of The Dunyaa And The Fitnah Of Women

''Verily the worldly life is sweet and green, and verily Allaah is going to place you as successors upon it in order to see how you act.  So be mindful of the dunyaah and be mindful of women; verily the first trial for the Children of Israa'eel was caused by women.''[(saheeh Muslim: No 2742) (Ibn Maajah: No 4000) (Ahmad: 3:22)]

Imaam Muhammad Ibn Saaleh Al-Uthaimeen (rahimahullaah) commented on this hadith saying:

Regarding his (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) statement:

''Verily The Worldly Life Is Sweet And Green''; sweet in taste and green in image.  And when something is green and sweet, the eye seeks it first and then the Nafs.  And when the eye and the nafs come together in seeking after something, the human being is drawn close to falling to it.  The worldly life is sweet in its taste and green in image, so the human being is deceived and pre-occupied by it, and he places a greater importance upon it than what is due to it (of importance).

However, the Prophet (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) has made it known that Allaah is going to place us as successors upon it in order to see how we act; whether we will be obedient to Him and forbid the nafs from desires, and whether you will fulfil what Allaah has enjoined upon you and not allow the worldly life to deceive you or whether the opposite will take place?  That is why he (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) said:

''Be Mindful Of The Worldly Life'', that is: fulfil what you have been commanded with and refrain from that which you have been forbidden, and do not let the sweetness and radiance of this worldly life to deceive you, as Allaah said:

''Let not then this (worldly) present life deceive you, nor let the chief deceiver (Satan) deceive you about Allaah''. 31:33

Then he (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) stated:

''So Be Mindful Of The Worldly Life And Be Mindful Of Women''

That is: be mindful of them.  This includes a warning to the woman regarding her plot(s) against her husband and also a warning against women and the trial that can be caused through them; and for that reason he (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) said:

''Verily The First Trial For The Children Of Israa'eel Was Caused By Women''. They were put to trail through women; thus they went astray and led others astray wal-iyaadhu-billaah.

And for this reason, we find that presently our enemies (the enemies of our religion, the enemies of Allaah's Sharee-ah) are focused on women issues. (They focus) on adorning women, intermingling them and making them share the same occupations with men, until it becomes as if the people are donkeys having no other concern except for their stomachs and canal desires, wal-iyaadho-billaah.  Women are portrayed as if they are mere images, that is: pictures (which) people attached no importance to except that which is connected to the woman's figure (outward appearance).

See how they have decorated and beautified her!  See how they have brought about beautifications for her and presented her in a desirable condition, in relation to (her) hair, skin, display of her legs, arms, face and everything else; until they make it the most important issue for the woman to be like a picture made out of plastic.

They neither present to her the importance of establishing ibaadah nor bearing children

The Heart Knowing Allaah

Imaam al-Bukhaaree said:

'Chapter: the saying of the Prophet (sallallaahu-alayhi-wa- sallam): 'I have more knowledge of Allaah than you all.' And that ma'rifah (knowledge/realization) is an action of the heart about which Allaah the Exalted says:

'But He will call you to account for what your hearts have earned.' [Sooratul-Baqarah 2:225]

Al-Haafidh Ibn Rajab said:

'So hearts will not be corrected until the ma'rifah of Allaah - being in awe of Him, loving Him, fearing Him, relying and trusting in Him, hoping in Him - is not firmly implanted in them. This is the reality of Tawheed and the meaning of the statement Laa ilaahaa illallaah (None has the right to be worshipped except Allaah).

So the hearts cannot be corrected until Allaah is made the ilaah (deity) to be known, loved, feared and hoped for; and that He becomes the only deity (ilaah) worthy of this - without associating any partners with Him in this. So know that the world - whatever is above and whatever is below in the waters - will not be corrected, except when the actions of its people are all for Allaah's sake. Since the actions of the body follow from the actions and intentions of the heart, then when the heart's actions and intentions are only to Allaah alone, then it is corrected, and all the actions of the body will likewise be corrected.

However, if the actions and intentions of the heart are directed to other than Allaah, then it is corrupted, and likewise, all the actions of the body will be corrupted in proportion to how much the heart has been corrupted.'

Knowing The Good And The Evil

Abdullaah Ibn Mas'ood heard a man saying:  'Whoever does not command the good and prohibit the evil is ruined!'  So he replied to the man: 'Whoever does not know the good and the evil in his heart is ruined.'  Al- Haafidh Ibn Rajab al-Hanbalee said: 'Ibn Mas'ood indicates that knowledge of the good and the evil in the heart is an obligation from which no one is exempt. So whoever does not know it is ruined.'

Compensation For The Spenders In Allaah's Cause And Destruction For The Misers

Allaah (subhaanah) said:

'Those who are miserly and enjoin miserliness on other men and hide what Allaah has bestowed upon them of His Bounties.  And We have prepared for the disbelievers a disgraceful torment.'

Narrated Abu Hurairah (radiyallaahu-anhu): The Prophet (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) said: 'Everyday two angels come down from heaven and one of them says, 'O Allaah! Be The Children Of The Afterlife And Not The Children Of The Dunyaah

Allaah (subhaanah) said:

'And keep yourself (O Muhammad) patiently with those who call on their Lord (i.e. your companions who remember their Lord with glorification, praising in prayers, etc., and other righteous deeds, etc.) morning and afternoon, seeking His Face, and let not your eyes overlook them, desiring the pomp and glitter of the life of the world; and obey not him whose heart We have made heedless of Our Remembrance, one who follows his own lusts and whose affair (deeds) has been lost.' 18:28

Allaah (subhaanah) said:

'Among you are some that desire this world and some that desire the Hereafter.' 3:152

Allaah (subhaanah) said:

'You desire the good of this world (i.e. the money of ransom for freeing the captives), but Allaah desires (for you) the Hereafter.'8:67

Allaah (subhaanah) said:

'Whosoever desires (with his deeds) the reward of the Hereafter, We give him increase in his reward, and whosoever desires the reward of this world (with his deeds), We give him thereof (what is written for him), and he has no portion in the Hereafter.' 42:20

Allaah (subhaanah) said:

'Whoever wishes for the quick-passing (transitory enjoyment of this world), We readily grant him what We will for whom We like. Then, afterwards, We have appointed for him Hell, he will burn therein disgraced and rejected, (far away from Allýh's Mercy).' 17:18-19

Allaah (subhaanah) said:

'And whoever desires the Hereafter and strives for it, with the necessary effort due for it (i.e. do righteous deeds of Allaah's Obedience) while he is a believer (in the Oneness of Allaah Islaamic Monotheism), then such are the ones whose striving shall be appreciated, thanked and rewarded (by Allaah).'17:18-19

Allaah (subhaanah) said:

'Whosoever desires the life of the world and its glitter; to them We shall pay in full (the wages of) their deeds therein, and they will have no diminution therein.   They are those for whom there is nothing in the Hereafter but Fire; and vain are the deeds they did therein.  And of no effect is that which they used to do.' 11:15-16

Ali (radiyallaahu-anhu) used to say:

'The Afterlife came approaching; the world passed on behind.  So be the Children of the Afterlife, not the Children of the World.  Since today there is action but no account, but tomorrow there will be accounting but no opportunity will be there to do any action'

Reflection

Allaah (subhaanah) said:

Say (O Muhammad): 'Come, I will recite what your Lord has prohibited you from: Join not anything in worship with Him; be good and dutiful to your parents; kill not your children because of poverty - We provide sustenance for you and for them; come not near to Al-Fawýhish (shameful sins, illegal sexual intercourse, etc.) whether committed openly or secretly, and kill not anyone whom Allýh has forbidden, except for a just cause (according to Islaamic law). This He has commanded you that you may understand.

'And come not near to the orphan's property, except to improve it, until he (or she) attains the age of full strength; and give full measure and full weight with justice. We burden not any person, but that which he can bear. And whenever you give your word (i.e. judge between men or give evidence, etc.), say the truth even if a near relative is concerned, and fulfill the Covenant of Allýh, This He commands you, that you may remember.'

'And verily, this (i.e. Allaah's Commandments mentioned in the above two Verses 151 and 152) is my Straight Path, so follow it, and follow not (other) paths, for they will separate you away from His Path. This He has ordained for you that you may become Al-Muttaqoon (the pious}

Being Deceived By The Life Of This World Is A Trait Of The People Of The Pre-Islaamic Era Of Ignorance

Imaam Muhammad Bin Abdul Wahhaab (rahimahullaah) stated in Masaa'ilil Jaahiliyyah:

Indeed they were deceived by the life of this world, so they thought that being given of it is an indication that Allaah is pleased (with the one who receives it), as Allaah stated about their saying: 'And they say: we are more in wealth and in children, and we are not going to be punished'

Sheikh Saaleh Al-Fawzaan (hafidha-hullaah) commented on the above statement saying:

The people of the era of pre-islaamic ignorance considered what they were given of children and wealth to be of nobility that they had in the sight of Allaah, and that Allaah was not going to punish them. 'And they say: we are more in wealth and in children, and we are not going to be punished.  Say (O Muhammad): Verily, my Lord enlarges the provision to whom He wills and restricts, but most men know not.  And it is not your wealth, nor your children that bring you nearer to Us' [34:35-37] up to His (Ta-aalaa) saying:

'Say: Truly, my Lord enlarges the provision for whom He wills of His slaves, and (also) restricts (it) for him, and whatsoever you spend of anything (in Allaah's Cause), He will replace it.  And He is the Best of providers'[34:39]

Therefore, abundant wealth, children and riches is not evidence of Allaah's love for a slave; rather He gives the disbeliever in order to (gradually lead him to destruction).  And as (mentioned) in a hadith:

'Indeed Allaah gives the dunyaah to the one He loves and to whom He does not love, but as for the Deen He only gives it to the one He loves'1

And (stated) in another hadith: 'If the world was worth even the weight of a mosquito's wing to Allah, He would not let a disbeliever drink even a sip of water in it.'2

The Messenger (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) is the noblest human being in the sight of Allaah, whilst His companions were afflicted with hunger, poverty and destitution, and they are the noblest of the creation in the sight of Allaah after the Prophets; but the kuffaar graze freely and rejoice in the blessings of the dunyaah to be (gradually led to destruction).

Therefore, the glitter of this world is not what determines the nobility of its people in the sight of Allaah (subhaanahu-wata-aalaa), rather what determines the nobility of a slave in the sight of Allaah is when he is a doer of righteous actions be he rich or poor.....

A Reminder For All Of Us With Regards To The Rights Of The Roads

Narrated Abu Said Al-Khudri: The Prophet said, 'Beware! Avoid sitting on the roads.' They (the people) said, 'O Allah s Apostle! We can't help sitting (on the roads) as these are (our places) where we have talks.' The Prophet said, 'l f you refuse but to sit, then pay the road its right' They said, 'What is the right of the road, O Allah's Apostle?' He said, 'Lowering your gaze, refraining from harming others, returning greeting, and enjoining good and forbidding evil.'

Allaah (subhaanah) said:

Verily those for whom the good has preceded from Us, they will be removed far therefrom (Hell) [e.g. 'Iesa (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary); 'Uzair (Ezra), etc.]

They shall not hear the slightest sound of it (Hell), while they abide in that which their ownselves desire.

The greatest terror (on the Day of Resurrection) will not grieve them, and the angels will meet them, (with the greeting): "This is your Day which you were promised."

And (remember) the Day when We shall roll up the heavens like a scroll rolled up for books, as We began the first creation, We shall repeat it, (it is) a promise binding upon Us. Truly, We shall do it.

And indeed We have written in Zaboor (Psalms) [i.e. all the revealed Holy Books the Tauraat (Torah), the Injeel (Gospel), the Qur'aan] after (We have already written in) Al-Lauh Al-Mahfooz (the Book, that is in the heaven with Allaah), that My righteous slaves shall inherit the land (i.e. the land of Paradise).

Verily, in this (the Qur'aan) there is a plain Message for people who worship Allaah (i.e. the true, real believers of Islaamic Monotheism who act practically on the Qur'aan and the Sunnah legal ways of the Prophet).

Supplication Against The Oppressive Yahood Is Permissible; But What Is The First Thing We Must Do Before That?

Sheikh Saaleh Al Fawzaan (hafidha-hullaah) stated:

Brothers;

The actions, disbelief and evil of the Yahood is well known, even (with regards) to (their relationship) with their Prophets.  They killed their Prophets, and (also) is that which occurred with Kaleemul'laah- Moosaa (alayhis-salaam) such as what Allaah has related in the Qur'aan (regarding) the story of Moosaa and Haaroon (alayhimas-salaam).

The character, disbelief, misguidance and evil of the Yahood is well known, even towards their Prophets; but what is obligatory upon us (Muslims) is that we ponder and rectify our deviated affairs and repent to Allaah; because the Yahood have not gained the upper hand over us except due to our sins.

Why is it that we do not hear anyone addressing and admonishing the Muslims whilst saying to them: What has happened to you is (nothing else), but as a result of your turning away from the religion of Allaah and negligence in the affairs of the Deen.  So repent to Allaah in order that Allaah may aid you and avert the plot of the plotters from you.

We do not hear except insult, abuse and supplication against the Yahood, but this should be substituted with supplicating to Allaah to rectify the Muslims and to make them steadfast.  And to mention to the Muslims that they should repent and return to Allaah, and rectify their Deen for the sake of Allaah.  This is the first obligation.

As for supplication against an oppressor-be it the Yahood or other than them, then there is nothing wrong with this.  It is legislated to supplicate against the one who oppress you with the sharee'ah supplications-the supplications found in the Book and the Sunnah. But before supplicating against them, you should supplicate to Allaah to rectify the Muslims and to make the Muslims steadfast upon their Religion and return them to the truth.  (And) advise, address and admonish (them) with regards to Allaah.  This is what is obligatory. [1]

Imaam Abdul Azeez Bin Baaz (rahimahullaah) stated:

The Path To Gaining Victory Over The Enemies is through learning the sharee'ah and acquiring understanding in the Deen of Allaah, (which applies) to the rulers, the ruled, the elders and the young; and then action upon what that necessitates, and to  abandon that which we are upon of that which Allaah has forbidden.  Allaah (Ta-aalaa) said:

'Verily! Allaah will not change the good condition of a people as long as they do not change their state of goodness themselves (by committing sins and by being ungrateful and disobedient to Allaah).' [13:11]

So whoever wishes for victory and assistance from Allaah, and to make the word of (Allaah) uppermost, then he should change that which he is upon of disobedience, sins and opposition to the command of Allaah.  And your Lord has stated:

'Allaah has promised those among you who believe, and do righteous good deeds, that He will certainly grant them succession to (the present rulers) in the earth, as He granted it to those before them, and that He will grant them the authority to practise their religion, that which He has chosen for them (i.e. Islaam). And He will surely give them in exchange a safe security after their fear (provided) they (believers) worship Me and do not associate anything (in worship) with Me.'[24:55]

Allaah (subhaanah) did not say that He has made a promise to those who attribute themselves to the Quraish or the Arabs or those who build castles and excavate petrol....rather he binded this affair to true Imaan and righteous action-regardless whether they are Arabs or non Arabs....[2]

The Evil Consequences Of Miserliness

Allaah said:

''And of them are some who made a covenant with Allaah (saying):'If He bestowed on us of His Bounty, we will verily, give Sadaqah (Zakaat and voluntary charity in Allaah's Cause) and will be certainly among those who are righteous.  Then when He gave them of His Bounty, they became n*gg*rdly [refused to pay the Sadaqah (Zakaat or voluntary charity)], and turned away, averse.  So He punished them by putting hypocrisy into their hearts till the Day whereon they shall meet Him, because they broke that (covenant with Allaah) which they had promised Him and because they used to tell lies.'' [Surah Tawbah; Ayah: 75-77]

Imaam Sadi (rahimahullaah) mentioned in his Tafseer that Allaah punished the Munaafiqoon by putting hypocrisy in their hearts; because they made a covenant with Allaah that they will spend in charity if given of Allaah's Blessings, but they became n*gg*rdly and turned away after they were given of His Blessings.

Therefore, the believer is warned against this evil characteristic of the Munaafiqoon, such that he makes a covenant with his Lord to do such and such, but when he reaches his goal he fails to fulfil that; for indeed, it may be that Allaah will punished him by putting hypocrisy in his heart just as he punished the Munaafiqoon. [See Tayseerul Kareem Ar-Rahmaan Fee Tafseer Kalaam Al-Mannaan]

O Allaah, grant us Tawfeeq so that we spend our wealth in acts of obedience.

O Allaah, protect us from turning away from spending without a valid excuse.

O Allaah, protect us from craving for unnecessary and worthless worldly possessions.

O Allaah, grant us Tawfeeq, so that we spend our wealth to provide our offspring with a good Islamic education, and that we do not give precedence to spending on worldly goods over spending to provide our offspring with the correct Aqeedah and Manhaj of the Salaf.

O Allaah, grant us tawfeeq, so that we do not become wasteful and extravagant after you have bestowed bounties upon us.

O Allaah, grant us Tawfeeq, so that we do not delay any obligatory act performed by way of wealth without a valid excuse.

O Allaah, protect us from all spending that increases our love for this short lived Dunyaah, and fill our hearts with remembrance of the  hereafter and that we suffice ourselves with only what is necessary.

The Prohibition Of Overspending And Extravagance During Weddings And Other Joyous Occasions

The Waleemah is a Prophetic Sunnah intended for the purpose of announcing a marriage and manifesting joy and happiness during this noble occasion.  However, it has to be carried out within the boundaries of the Islamic rules and regulations; and neither being wasteful nor extravagant.

Allaah (Ta-aalaa) said:

'But spend not wastefully (your wealth) in the manner of a spendthrift.   Verily, spendthrifts are brothers of the Shayaateen (devils), and the Shaytaan (The Devil) is ever ungrateful to his Lord.'[Surah Al-Israa; Ayah 26-27] [1]

Shaytaan does not call the person to (anything) except to every blameworthy habit.  So he calls him to miserliness and to refrain from spending, but when the person refuses to obey him, he calls him to overspending and extravagance; but Allaah calls to the most just and balance of affairs, and praises the person for that, as He (subhaanah) has stated about the Ibaadur-Rahmaan;

'And those, who, when they spend, are neither extravagant nor miserly, but hold a medium (way) between those (extremes).'[Surah Furqaan; Ayah:67] [2]

Therefore, economizing in spending and not being extravagant and wasteful is an obligation during marriage ceremonies and other than it. These squanderers, who waste meat and food and dispose of it in waste bins should be reminded that there are hungry people hoping for a mouth full of (food) and a scrap of bread.  (They should be reminded) to fear Allaah and to fear Him in their gatherings, and that they do not become the cause of Allaah's blessings being stopped.....[3]

Ibn Al Jawziyyah said:

Whoever does not read the stories of the Salaf and the path that they tread, he can never tread that path.  It is befitting for a person to know and understand that the nature of an individual (character) is a thief.  If a person leaves his nature with the people of his time, his nature will steal from theirs and he will become similar to them.  But if he reads into the lives of the Salaf his nature will join theirs and he will learn from their character....(Telblees Iblees)

The following are just a few examples from the past and present day scholars informing of their love of knowledge and their preference of it over relaxation.

First:

It was reported by Ibn al Qayyim in his book: 'Rawdatul Muhibeen' I was informed by my Sheikh (Ibn Taymiyyah), he said: When I became sick the doctor said to me: Verily your research and Islamic lecturing increases your illness.  I (Ibn Taymiyyah) replied: I can not stop, and I will debate you in your knowledge! If a person becomes happy and joyful doesn't this strengthen their soul or spirit, and as a result wards off illness? The doctor responded: Of course.  So I (Ibn Taymiyyah) said: Verily my spirit is pleased with knowledge and it strengthens my nature and due to that I find relaxation.  The doctor responded: This is something our knowledge doesn't apply to.

Second:

It was reported by Sheikh Muhammed bin Hadee to some of his visitors that he was told a story by Ahmed Al Hakimy, the brother of Sheikh Hafith Al Hakimy:

One year while Sheikh Hafith Al Hakimy was on Hajj or during Ramadan in Mecca, he was looking for the book titled: "Creation of The Servant's Action" by Imam Al Bukhari. While in Mecca he was informed that someone had arrived from India with a copy of the book and that he had given it to the library there in The Haram.  Sheikh Hafith visited the library and requested to borrow the book under the condition that he would not leave the Haram and that he would return the book the following day after the rising of the sun.  He took the book and requested for someone to bring him paper and a pen.  He sat and made his own copy of the book.  Then he continued to memorize the book until Fajr. After Fajr he rested for a short period of time and then woke up.  Upon waking, he returned the original book to the library and said: Here is your original, and here is an extra copy (the copy he himself wrote) and the book is in my head (memorized).

May Allah grant Sheikh Hafith Al Hakimy ease in his grave and raise him with the righteous ameen.

It was also mentioned by Sheikh Ahmed An Najmee the following:

We (as young boys) were instructed by our teacher Sheikh Abdullah Al Qara'wee to memorize the Quran in preparation for the month of Ramadan.  We would memorize during the day, and toward the end of the day we gathered to test one another in memorization.  I (Ahmed An Najmee) memorized a hizb for that day.  Surprisingly, Hafith Al Hakimy memorized a full Juz!  We continued for a full month, and everyday Hafith would memorize a full Juz completing the entire Quran in one month!

Third:

It was reported by Sheikh Abdul Kareem Al Kudair:

I was informed by one of the widows of Sheikh Abdul Azeez bin Baz that one day he returned home from the hospital, and upon entering the house she noticed that he was very tired and exhausted.  After falling to sleep, she changed his alarm clock from the normal set time for night prayer, to a later time.  The Sheikh woke at his normal time without the clock and inquired why the clock did not work.  His wife informed that she had changed the time in order for him to relax.  He admonished her and said: Relaxation is in Paradise!

(Lecture titled:"Radiant Pages From The (examples) of The Worship of The Scholars")

Imam ash-Shaafi'ee: 'There is nobody except that he has someone who loves him and someone who hates him.. So if thatýs the case, let a person be with the people who are obedient to Allah `azza wa jall!ý ( - as they love and hate for the Sake of Allah and they are not unjust)

- The shahaadatain is a test for the slave's heart;

- The salat is a test for the slave's limbs, and ability to manage himself and his time;

-The zakat is a test for man in his wealth;

-The fasting is a test for the slave's ability to leave off desires for the sake of His Creator and Lord;

-The Hajj is a test for the slave's ability to bear hardship, difficulties of traveling in the way of Allaah

Our Salafus Saaleh, They Are The Examples To Follow

Shaqeeq Al-Bal-khee (rahimahullaah) said  to Al-Haatim Al-Asam (rahimahullaah), 'You have accompanied me for a long time, so what have you learnt?'  He replied, 'I have learnt eight affairs:

The First Affair:

Indeed, I have looked at all the creation and every person has a beloved one; but when he reaches the grave his beloved one is separated from him.  So I took my beloved one to be my good deeds so that it may remain with me at the grave.

I looked to everyone who has something he considers valuable and keeps safely.  So I looked to the saying of Allaah:

'Whatever is with you, will be exhausted, and whatever is with Allaah (of good deeds) will remain' [16:96]

So whenever I had something of value, I would spend it in Allaahýs cause so that it may remain with Him for me.
