jazakallahu khayran for that beneficial post. The meaning of some of this is also contained in some well-known words of poetry attributed to Imam Ahmad as well as to 'Abdah Ibn Ziyaadah Al-Asbahaanee See "Jammi' Bayaanil-'Ilm Wa Fadlihi" Volume 1 Page 782, Ibnul Jawzi, print I,1414H. Brother Abu Ubayd Al-Khattakiy also reminded us of these lines in a recent post and they are as follows: دين النبي محمد أخبار نعم المطية للفتى الآثار لا ترغبنَّ عن الحديث وأهله فالرأي ليل والحديث نهار ولربما جهل الفتى أثر الهدى والشمس بازغة لها أنوار These invaluable lines of poetry mean something to the effect of what follows: The Deen of the Prophet Mohammad is narrations How wonderful it is for a youth to carry narrations as his scroll Do not turn away from the hadeeth or its people For opinion is night and the hadeeth is daylight And it is possible that the youth is ignorant of the path of guidance While the sun shines high full of radiance" (That poetry never did sound right in English!) [corrections/suggestions welcome] Wassalamalykum wa rahmatullah Abu Ishaaq Nadeem ibn Mohammad Ahsan-shah ((من كطم غيظاً و هو قادر أن ينفذه دعاه الله على رؤوس الخلائق حتى يخيره من الحور العين يزوجه منها ما يشاء)) [صحيح الجامع رقم 6522]
