From Sahab.net: "السـنة في التسمـية على الطعام هي عـدم زيـادة الرحمن الرحيم" يقول العلامة الألباني في سلسلة الصحيحة حديث رقم 344 و في الحديث دليل على أن السنة في التسمية على الطعام إنما هي " بسم الله " فقط و مثله حديث عائشة مرفوعا :" إذا أكل أحدكم طعاما فليقل : بسم الله ، فإن نسي في أوله ، فليقل : بسم الله في أوله و آخره " .أخرجه الترمذي و صححه ، و له شاهد من حديث ابن مسعود تقدم ذكره مخرجا برقم( 196 ) . ... (he says later) ... و أقول : لا أفضل من سنته صلى الله عليه وسلم " و خير الهدي هدي محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم " فإذا لم يثبت في التسمية على الطعام إلا بسم الله " ، فلا يجوز الزيادة عليها فضلا عن أن تكون الزيادة أفضل منها ! لأن القول بذلك خلاف ما أشرنا إليه من الحديث :" و خير الهدي هدي محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم " . mashaAllah, so shaykh al albaani said that we should only say "bismillah" and we are not permitted to add anything to it. i wanted to point out that "bismillah wa ala barakatillah" is often taught in books and in masaajid specially to children. so unless there is an authentic narration regarding that, we should still to the sunnah of the prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. barakAllahu feekum
