Assalaamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakat

I am writing to answer if some of the knowledgable brothers could answer the following query for me.

There is a hadith in which the prophet s.a.w has said (paraphrasing) "I have been commanded not to recite the Quran during prostration" and another one where he s.a.w advised the ummah to supplicate much during prostration.

My Question is, is it permissable to recite certain verses from the Quran which either praise Allah swt or is some form of dua. ie. "rabbighfirilee waliwalidayya", "rabbanaa aamannaa faktubnaa ma'ash-shahedeen" etc.

This is in particular for people who would like to supplicate during prostration, but do not know arabic except parts of the Quran they have memorised.  Also this is in relation to the last few days of Ramadhan where we should inshaaAllah be doing much supplications.

jazakallahu khairan to anyone who can respond.

Wassalaamu alaikum.

Wa 'alaykum as salaam warahmatullahi wabarakaatuh,

Q: We know that it is not permissible to recite the Qur'an while prostrating in Salah; however, there are some Ayahs (Qur'anic Verses) that include Du'a' (supplications) such as the saying of Allah (may He be Exalted), Surah Al-`Imran, 3: 8 Our Lord! Let not our hearts deviate (from the truth) after You have guided us...  What is the ruling on reciting such Du`a' mentioned in the Qur'an during prostration?

A: There is nothing wrong with that, if it is done as a Du`a' and not as recitation of the Qurưan.

May Allah grant us success! May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions!
