Topic: Correct printing of the Supplication between Sajdahs

sajid_chauhan_81    -- 03-09-2009 @ 11:56 PM
As salamu alaykum brothers and sisters,

Attached are the screenshots from Shaykh al-Albani's book "The Prophet's Prayer" and Sunan ibn Majah that is published in Lahore, Pakistan.

There is a slight difference between the supplications that are mentioned in both the above books even though the reference seems to be the one narrated from Hudhayfah radiAllahu anhu.

Can someone please let me know which is the correct printing of the duaa? shaykh al-Albani's or the Pakistani publication?

JazakAllahu khayran.

wa salaamu 'alaykum,
Sajid

wa 'alaykmus-salaam wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh

i didnt see any attachment akhee so i haven't seen the texts.  what is in md. fu'aad abdul-baaqee's printing, which was supposed to be based on the old indian manuscript (with the notes of as-sindee) more than the egyptian one, is "rabbigh-fir-lee, rabbigh-fir-lee" (the same phrase twice).

this is the same as what is in sh. al-albaanee's printing.  you should know that sh al-albaanee's printing is not a tahqeeq of the text, meaning he did not produce the text himself from the manuscripts, rather he relied on the md. fu'aad printing.  there are differences between the two bt rarely.

even though the md. fu'aad printing itself has a number of mistakes, it is much more accurate than the md. mustafaa al-a'thamee printing that came after it.

a newer tahqeeq by bash-shaar ma'roof points out mistakes from the md. fu'aad abdul-baaqee printing throughout.

sorry akhee but since i haven't seen what is in the pakistaani printing you have i don't really know what the phrase is that you are concerned about.  may Allaah bless you.

JazakAllah khayr akhi. Somehow the attachment didn't get uploaded. I'm attaching again with this post.

And u are right... the Pakistani print says rabbigh-fir-lee rabbigh-fir-lee while the one in Shaykh Albani's book reads rabbigh-fir-lee agh-fir-lee. The word Rabb is missing in the 2nd one.

you are probably concerned about the missing word in the mukhtasir of Sifat Salaatin-Nabee (the Prophet's Prayer Described)!

it should read "Rabbigh-fir lee, rabbigh-fir lee"

not "rabbighfir lee, ighfir lee"

the word "rabbi" (the second occurance) was ommitted in the summarized version.  i believe this is what is found in the english traslation of it as well.  as a note, i don't think the translation mentions that it is the summarized version of the book, not the original, and Allaah knows best.

it is likely a printing error, since the original Sifat Salaatin-Nabee has the complete wording that is found in Sunan Ibn Maajah, and there is no discussion about any difference in wordings by the author in his original Sifat Salaatin-Nabee, and Allaah knows best.

Actually its clear now that it was a mistaken ommission that occurred in Mukhtasir Sifat Salaatin-Nabee (sallallaahu alayhe wa sallam).  Refer to:

May Allaah bless you for your question akhee!  This is a case of a seemingly small question that might even seem unimportant to some people, one that gives way to a very important matter related to correcting the way we worship our Lord.
