Shaykh Nasir rahimahullaah has mentioned the hadeeth from Saheeh Muslim reagarding the command of the Messenger of Allaah Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam to SIT when the Imam is leading the prayer in a sitting position.

Does Shaykh Nasir rahimahullah consider this an OBLIGATION?
Does anyone know if he has elaborated on this issue in a different book?
BarakAllaah feekum.

Is there a difference of opinion regarding who lead the prayer(Abee Bakr radhiAllaahu anhu or the Messenger of Allaah Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) in the final illness after which the Messenger of Allaah Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam died?

Ibn Hajr rahimahullah mentioned in Fath that its reported from 4 of the Sahabah that they ordered to pray sitting after the death of the Messenger of Allaah Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam and there is no known mukhalif from the As'haab of the Messenger of Allaah Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam. So does Shaykh Nasir rahimahullah bring any other narrations?

Imam Ahmed rahimahullah differentiated between the two reports. One during the former illness where the Messenger of Allaah Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam lead the prayer sitting and he commanded the people of sit while in the other report Aboo Bakr radhiAllaahu anhu initiated the prayer STANDING and later the Messenger of Allaah Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam joined the prayer. Is it that the scholars of fiqh make two different rulings with these two reports and hold former to be still an obligation?

Some of the scholars have considered the former narration to have been abrogated. Is there a hadeeth that shows confirms that this abrogation is not valid besides the action of the Sahabah? Because from the usool the marfoo riwaayah is given precedence over a fatwa even if it opposes?

I would like to know as much detail as possible on this matter. BarakAllaah feekum. Even if someone can refer me to the books where this issue is discussed in detail.

  Al-Hamdulillah wa salatu wa salamu 'ala Rasulullah

Salamu alaikum wa rahmatullah;

In Volume I of Sahih Muslim, the Chapter "THE MUQTADI SHOULD STRICTLY FOLLOW THE IMAM IN PRAYER." is followed by the Chapter, which reads in part "There is an abrogation of saying prayer sitting behind a sitting Imam." Imam Muslim [rahimahullah] of course gives his Daleel in the Chapter for this ABROGATION.

I don't know Shaikh Nasir's works nor do I know of Ikhtilaf baina Ulamaa [difference of opinion on this matter bewteen the scholars] - here perhaps some serious student of knowledge could give more insight.

Question now for them, is there a school of thought that permits/instructs the muqtadi to sit, if the Imam is sitting and what is their Daleel?

Because we have the Daleel presented in the Hadith of Muslim, to STAND EVEN IF THE IMAM IS SITTING.

OUR CLARIFICATION:
In Sahih Bukhari, he [rahimahullah]has another Hadith where Humaidi [radiyyallahu anhu] states " The statemment of the Prophet [sallahullahu alaihi wa salam] "offer Salat sitting , if the Imam is sitting was said in his former illness [during his early life] but later on the Prophet [sallallahu alaihi wa salam] offered Salat sitting and the people offered Salat STANDING BEHIND HIM and the Prophet [sallallahu alaihi wa salam] did not order them to sit. So one had to follow the last action of the Prophet [sallallahu alaihi wa salam]." This is from Sahih al-Bukhari, Chapter "THE IMAM IS APPOINTED TO BE FOLLOWED" [#688] narrated by A'isha [radiyyallahu anha] & [#689] narrated by Anas ibn Malik [radiyyallahu anhu], particularly the latter Hadith has this info.

May Allah Ta'Ala bless and guide us all to cling to the Sunnah.

I found the answer a while back in the original work of Shaykh Nasir rahimahullah volume 1/3 of Sifath Salat an Nabee. See his discussion from page 83-90. BarakAllaah feekum.

If anyone is aware of any other research on this matter please post it in this thread. BarakAllaah feekum.
