Topic: Bismillaah in Salaah ?

  Assalaamu 'alaykum wa rahmatullaah,

Iam asking this Question on behalf of our brother & i too had doubts about these issues -

1.Does one recite Bismillaah in every rak'ah when he recites Surah Al-Faatihah or should we start with the Surah al Faatihah without Bismillaah?

2.Does one recite Bismillaah before starting another Surah after Surah al Faatihah ?

3.And when we start from the middle of a Surah or recite Ayatul Kursee then should we say bismillaah before that or should we recite without Bismillaah?

InshaAllaah, if anyone can provide answers from the 'ulamaa on this issue it will be very helpful.

JazaakAllaahu khairan,

wassalaamu 'alaykum,

Abu 'Abdullaah Waseem.

BaarakAllaahu feek. Alhamdulillaah, the article answers the first Question. InshaAllaah if someone can ask the 'ulamaa about the other two questions.

And the son of Imaam Ahmad, Abdullaah, reported from him, in al-Masaa'il(p.72), that he said, "A man says, "Bismillaahir-Rahmaanir-Raheem" at thebeginning of every Surah". So it was said to my father, "If a man recites al-Faatihah, while he is prayer, and then when he finishes it he begins another Surah, opening it with Bismillaahir-Rahmaanir-Raheem?" He [Imaam Ahmad]said, "Yes, but he does not recite it aloud?".This is also reported by his son Saalih in al-Masaa'il (1/479,480).

  as salaamu alaikum wa rahmutullaah,

I have found a 40 page treatise from shaykh Ahmed an_Najmee dealing solely with this very subject.

Fathu ar Rabbi ir Raheem

After bringing the evidences for the bismillaah being audible and non-audible the shaykh concludes that both positions are permisable.

walaahu Alim,
