Topic: toilet/shower in same room

  as salaamu alikum wa rahmatullah

i understand the rulings of using the toilet, like not saying Allahs name, talking, reciting qur'an replying to salaams of the person who gives them etc., but do these same rulings apply to when using the shower/bathub, or even to use the sink and wash one's face or straighten oneself out in the mirror?
as here in the west, toilets and showers are in the same room...

I have heard more than one of the ulema discussing this issue and what they say is that the sink area is not a direct part of the toilet area such that it takes the exact same ruling as the toilet. Further, the toilet is also a lot less filthier than the ones once known, since all waste is flushed away from the area immediately.

Hence as I remember shaykh Mohammad albanna explaining that one would avoid making Dhikr while ON the toilet, and as i remember shaykh Uthaymeen explaining (on the radio) that if one sneezes while in the bathroom then he says alhamdulillah to himself, without voice (but with slight lip movement) and, from what i remember shaykh saleh al-fawzan saying (on the radio) that the sink is totally out of the "restricted" area even moreso that the waste is flushed away and so one would say bismillah for wudhu normally while at the sink.

As for WHEN to say the dua for entering the toilet, I've heard shaykh al-banna saying that you say it AS you approach the TOILET within the bathroom, though I can't get my self to stop saying it as I enter the bathroom door!

As an added note, the word ?toilet? in this article refers only to the area immediately surrounding the place of relief and not, as is commonly understood in English, the entire bathroom.
