Topic: Iq'aa' between the two Sajdahs

  As salaamu alaikum,
Can someone help me with a description of the Iq'aa'. In the Prophet's Prayer Described by Shaikh Al-Albaani(rahimahullaah)he says "He would sometimes practice iq'aa'[resting on both his heels and (all) his toes]." And in the Sahih of Muslim Tawus reported: We asked Ibn Abbas about sitting on one's feet (in prayer), he said: " It is the Sunnah." We said to him: "We find it a sort of cruelty to the foot." Ibn Abbas said: "It is the sunnah of your Prophet(sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam)." Shaikh Al- Albaani brings this hadith in his notes on the sajdah (pg 53) Bukhaari and Abu Daawood. Ibn Sa'd (4/157) related from Ibn Umar that he liked to point whatever of his body he could towards the qiblah when praying, even his thumbs. My understanding is that the feet should still face the qiblah in this iq'aa. What is the correct position? There is a contention that Iq'aa' allows the feet to point away from the qiblah( ie. buttocks on heels, toes pointed back, soles of feet up).
JazakAllaahu Khair

  بسم الله الرحمان الرحيم

Performing 'iq'aa' your toes will be facing the qibla while resting upon the heels. As this iq'aa is only between the two sajdahs.

  as salaamu alaikum,

Barakallahu feek for the reply, I also found in Shaikh Al-Albaanee's abridgement of the Prophet's Prayer Described a description of the Iq'aa'.
point(114) It is also permissible to sit upon the heels (Al-Iq'aa') sometimes. He does this by sitting upon his heels with both feet upright.. Insha Allah this proof will be sufficent.
