Desirability of Lying down on one's right side after the Sunnah of Fajr Prayer
Narrated by 'A`ishah (radiallaahu 'anha):  | quote: |
| Allaah's Messenger (salallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) used to pray two light rak'at before the morning (compulsory) prayer after the day dawned and the Mu`adhdhin had finished his Adhan. He then would lie on his right side till the Mu`adhdhin came to pronounce the Iqaamah. |

Narrated by 'A`ishah: | quote: |
| Allaah's Messenger (salallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) used to offer eleven rak'at and that was his prayer. He used to prolong the prostration to such an extent that one could recite fifty verses (of the Qur`an) before he would lift his head. He used to pray two rak'at (Sunnah) before the Fajr prayer and then used to lie down on his right side till the Mu`adhdhin came and informed him about the prayer. |

Narrated 'A`ishah: | quote: |
| The Prophet (salallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) used to pray eleven rak'at in the late part of the night, and when dawn appeared, he would offer two rak'at and then lie on his right side till the Muadhdhin came to inform him (that the morning prayer was due). |

In the highly beneficial book A Description of the Regular Sunnah Prayers by Shaikh Muhammad 'Umar Bazmool (hafidhahullaah) - translated by our dear brother Aboo 'Abdillaah Hasan As-Somali - Shaikh Bazmool brought to the attention of the readers the following hadeeth:
'A`ishah said: | quote: |
| After offering the Sunnah of the Fajr prayer, the Prophet (salallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) used to talk to me if I happened to be awake; otherwise he would lie down till the iqaamah was called (for the Fajr prayer). |

And then said concerning it: | quote: |
| This hadeeth shows that the Messenger (salallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) would occasionally abstain from lying upon his right side after performing the supererogatory Sunnah prayer of Fajr. If it was an obligation, he would never have forsaken this practice. |

THE FOLLOWING IS FOUND in Riyad-us-Saliheen, in the chapter titled: Desirability of Lying down on one's right side after the Sunnah of Fajr Prayer
1112. Abu Hurairah (radiallaahu 'anhu) reported: The Messenger of Allaah (salallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) said, "When anyone of you has performed two of Sunnah before the Fajr prayer, he should lie down on his right side." [Abu Dawud and At-Tirmidhi].

| Commentary: The preceding ahadeeth described the practice of the Prophet (salallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) while the present one tells us about his order that one should lie down on his right side after offering the two Sunnah of Fajr prayer. Thus, this practice is proved by his speech as well as action which does not leave any doubt about it being a Sunnah and Mustahabb (desirable). |

BENEFITS FROM COMMENTARY OF Buloogh Al-Maraam:
Even more can be found regarding this Sunnah in Buloogh Al-Maraam, wherein is commentary that reminds us that this sunnah is to be done at home, as was the practice of the Messenger of Allaah, salallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam.
The commentary therein also mentions that Ibn 'Umar's "non-compliance" regarding this Sunnah: | quote: |
| "is due to its being related to the mosque. The Prophet salallaahu 'alaihi wasallam used to lie down in his house only. Both the acts of offering two rak'ah [Sunnah of Fajr] in the mosque and lying down there [after Sunnah of Fajr] on the part of the Prophet are not approved." |

...It has not been narrated that the Prophet (salallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) or his companions (radiallaahu 'anhum) observed this practice in the mosque.*
* Shaikh Al-Albanee (d. 1421H) - rahimahullaah- said: | quote: |
| We are not aware of any of the companions doing this lying down after the supererogatory prayer of Fajr in the masjid. In fact, some of them criticised this behavior. So it should only be done in the house, as was his (salallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) Sunnah. |
